Any idea what will happen to the Big East? Any chance MAC teams are called on to join the conference? Or that any former Big East teams look to join smaller a conference? (Cincinnati, Louisville, USF)

I'm thinking Buffalo for sure and Temple maybe would go Big East if they got the chance.

I've read that the Big East doesn't want to rebuild the football conference again and will spin off as a non-football entity. Big East football schools headed to the Big XII or something new.

Most Memorable Bobcat Events Attended
2010 97-83 win over Georgetown in NCAA 1st round
2012 45-13 victory over ULM in the Independence Bowl
2015 34-3 drubbing of Miami @ Peden front of 25,086

This would make more sense.

Looks like WVU, Louisville, Cincinnati, South Florida, TCU and etc. are going to get screwed.  Maybe even Uconn and Rutgers.

Imagine if Villanova had started pouring money into football?  Yikes.

I can't imagine that automatic qualification to the BCS bowls is going to go unused. If the Big East gives up football, I'd expect a new football conference to pop up in its place. The same goes for the Big 12 slot.

I could see WVU going to the SEC at a pair with Texas A&M. I could see Oklahoma and Texas added as well to make 16 teams. The Big ten could go to 14 or 16, perhaps taking U.Conn and Rutgers to gain market share in the northeast, with ND and Missouri as other possibilities. That leaves Louisville, Cincy, USF, and TCU from the Big East, plus Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa State, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, Baylor, and Missouri from the Big 12. I could imagine a re-formed Big 12 as a mid-west conference that might make sense including something like Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa State, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, Baylor, TCU, Colorado State, Louisville, Tulsa, Wyoming, and Cincinnati.  That leaves only USF out in the cold.

I would love to see Cincy, Rutgers, and maybe WVU join the MAC.  With PAC12, BIG10, and ACC then theres a good chance the MAC could become one of the major conferences, but those teams will never join

The Big East can go two different routes:

1) They try to stick with the teams that haven't jumped ship (Louisville, Cincy, Rutgers, USF, TCU, and maybe UCONN) and add upcoming programs from other Conferences (Baylor, UCF, SMU, maybe even Ohio but I'm not holding my breath) as football only affiliates.

2) The Big East completely drops football, the BCS bid goes to another Mid-Major, most likely Mountain-West, and they'll just turn into a better version of the A-10.

The MAC should jump to invite U of L and UC to join as football only schools.    The Big East, if WVU, Rutgers, USF & U.Conn leave, still have 11 very good basketball schools.  And would probably take aim at adding 3 to 5 additional, most likely out of the A-10.
It is more important for Cincinnati and Louisville to be in a strong basketball conference, and this gives them the opportunity to stay in the Big East.  The MAC has experience working this arrangement for UMASS and Temple and they can only benefit doing it once again.

I don't see how the Big East can survive as basketball only.
If I was the MAC I would be throwing invites out left and right... AND.. I would play hard ball with Temple and UMASS to join as all Sports or they're out!
