What do you guys think? Did we just see a team that has been held back so far with vanilla play calling against some very bad opponents and now we just unleashed what we're really capable of?

OR, is Marshall really terrible and we just happened to be really jacked up for the game?

OR, were we just THAT crazy tonight?

I need some feedback because I'm at a loss. I feel like getting in my car (bad idea) and driving to Athens right now to ring that bell.

That was as complete an ass kicking as we"ve had in at least a decade.  I think we beat Rutgers next weekend.

I tried to get $400 down on the 'Cats vs. NMSU but couldn't.  Got $200 down on the 'Cats for today.  I'm worried that the spread won't leave me a good bet vs. Rutgers.

Eyes might have been opened tonight.

OU football at its finest.  Loved that Tettleton provided Boykin with an escort into the end zone on the long run that was called back in the 4th Q.  Loved the effort that Bates and Brazill put out along the sidelines in their TDs.  Loved the power in the running game.  Loved that the defensive secondary was all over the ball tonight.  Loved that the D line was aggressive and in the Terd's face all night.  They gave up some yards, but didn't break.  Solid, solid, solid four quarters.  It may be difficult to play with this much intensity next week, but if they can, they'll be 4-0 vs. nonconference.

We just witnessed the maturation of Ohio Football under Coach Solich! Anyone still doubting the playbook was throttled back for GW? I'm so jacked I still can't get to sleep. GO CATS!

Ditto Zaleski - it was a good old fashioned a** kicking and it was just what they deserved after their fans came into our stadium thinking they owned our place. So glad the CATS jumped on em quick - didn't have to listen to much junk!!!   GREAT JOB CATS- LOVED IT!!!

Everything just came together.  Everyone healthy and I believe this was a game the players wanted badly.  I believe the new uniforms helped.  Hope they reappear for Temple.

Don't forgat that Marshall beat Southern Miss last week, and many of the CUSA experts were predicting the Golden Eagles to win CUSA this season. So Marshall is no slouch.

Best performance by an Ohio Football team that I've seen in a while...maybe ever. I'm not sure how good Marshall is, but I suspect they'll at least be bowl eligible. We dominated them in every phase of the game. We beat them like they were an FCS team.

If (and it's a BIG if), we can beat Rutgers next week, this could be a VERY special season. One game at a time, though!

A few things I thought were important that made this as stunning a win as I can remember as an Ohio fan.

The offensive line and the play calling to counteract the pass rush were phenomenal. Ohio rolled the pocket to the right continuously, didn't allow the ball to stay in the pocket for more than about two seconds and just manhandled Vinny Curry -- something I didn't know was possible.

The pacing of the Ohio offense completely took Marshall aback. There was a drive in the second quarter where Ohio looked like Oregon at its best (CRACKPOT THEORY NO. 1: IT'S THE UNIFORMS...BLACK UNIFORMS MAKE YOU FASTER!), getting to the line in about 10 seconds and hiking it before Marshall was even aware of the formation. It got to the point where a penalty against Marshall was a disappointment, because they could find their bearings. Slowing the pace down against G-W and not putting anything of value on tape in the first two weeks really helped.

And, frankly, the ball just bounced Ohio's way last night. The tipped pass that went right to the receiver, a freshman quarterback who melted down in front of 23,000 people (at some point Doc had to think about pulling the kid just to save a shred of confidence in him, didn't he?) and some circus catches*  that you can't just count on being made every week all came together in a way that is not repeatable on  a consistent basis. It just started rolling.

Ohio is not 37 points better than Marshall on a week-to-week basis. But Ohio is better than Marshall. Hopefully, Ohio doesn't fall into the trap thinking they are THAT good. They'd be set up for a mighty far fall if they think that. They're going to have to grind out a win in Piscataway.

*By the way, we always blame the rules of no touching the receivers and the spread for the explosion in offense in HS, college and pro football, but some of it is the skills wide receivers are developping. That one handed catch in the end zone that was called back was amazing. Phenomenal. Brazil's catch was fantastic. And I just didn't see receivers even 10 years ago making that sort of catch as regularly as I do now. Isn't it possible that offensive skills have simply gotten so good that defenses can't keep up, paired with new schemes that defenses haven't figured out? Crackpot theory No. 2:  I'm not sure it makes sense to put great athletes in the secondary any more. It's almost impossible to stop the pass. Why not just get more great wideouts?

Funny you say that, Brian: I theorized yesterday defense has been more or less the same over the years while offense is constantly evolving.

I agree with DXer that Marshall is no slouch, but they have a tough row to hoe if they're going to be bowl eligible.  They'll likely be 1-3 after Saturday's home game vs. Virginia Tech, so they'll probably need to win 5 of the last 8 to be bowl eligible.  They have Louisville, UCF, Houston and Tulsa on the road and will have to win at least one of those.  Oddly enough the easiest of those is likely to be L'ville, which had a sluggish home win vs. Austin Peay, lost to FIU at home and just got past Kentucky on the road.  The rest of their schedule has home games vs. Rice (which beat Purdue), UAB (which lost BIG to Tulane (?!?!?!)) and East Carolina (always a tough team) -- and what should be a road win at Memphis.  So they have only two likely wins left on their schedule.  That can all change, though, if they beat Tech, which nearly lost at ECU last week (17-10).  A lot depends on how they respond to last night's drubbing.

As for what we saw last night, after reading some of the comments here and thinking more about it I think we saw the program turn the corner that we've all been waiting for.  It seems like every year we have one or two early season games that we expect to win, but don't.  Last year it was Toledo and Marshall; the year before I think it was UConn; the two previous years it was Wyoming.  Those losses always seem to be huge psychological setbacks.  Last night, we got the Marshall gorilla off our back.  Next up we have a team from a Big 6 conference; we haven't beaten one of those since Illinois in '06.  A win next week would be HUGE.

Ditto Pataskala:  Tettleton had an otstanding night with his decision making, passing, running and general ship of the BOBCATS offense and that play where he sprinted to get in front of Boykin to make a block was an outstanding display of effort, team play and unselfishness.   The entire team (offense and defense) gave a great effort and performance.  Coach Solich and his staff  really had the BOBCATS ready.  Brian Smith made some great points too. So many great plays - It will be hard to have all of those great plays every week.  Just hoping we don't have an emotional let down against Rutgers.  GO CATS.
