The dialogue here has been less then compelling since our neighbors from the South have blessed us with their presence. That said, lets try and have a FOOTBALL discussion.

I was wondering, what is the ONE thing you would like to see the Bobcats improve (or expand) upon this week? Maybe it's a unit (kickoff coverage) or an individual players performance or something the coaches need to switch up.

Marshall fans, if you can, RESTRAIN YOURSELVES from commenting.

I'll go first: I would like to see the Offense run the ball effectively against the Herd. You might say, "Hey Paul, we've been running the ball well all year, why'd you pick that!!??". Well, here's my thought process: in the Solich era we've had teams that have run the ball well, primarily during the Kalvin years. However, those teams never ran the ball well against quality opponents. We just didn't have the O-line to push around the more athletic and bigger defenses. I'm hoping this year is different. If we can run the ball well against the Herd, then we will run it effectively all year.

Ok, your turn, GO!

I'd like to see Phil Bates really show his stuff in both the wildcat formation and as a wide receiver.  We need to get him out in open filed situations because once he gets up a head of steam there's nobody on the Marshall team that can out maneuver him or catch him.  I'd like to see him score a TD or two.

That is my #2 "would like to see".

#1 is win the turnover margin.

Offense:
AJ / Jordan dominate Curry
Big day for Riley & Jordan
Zero turnovers

Special Teams:
Continue the zero punt return yardage string

Defense:
Noah's presence is known and heard from the stands all game
Secondary continues meshing and Nathan wins the sibling rivalry

Hard to pin it down to one thing, but I'll go opposite and say we have to have an effective passing game.  To me, I'm envisioning an athletic Marshall team taking away a lot of our run at the beginning.  Tyler has to be smart and find openings down the field.  Brazill has to get his rhythm and make the big plays we've seen from McCrae, Price, etc.  Foster needs to use his body and get the 50/50 passes.  Dunlop needs to be featured a little more to really pressure the secondary.  Same for Jordan and the TE's.  Etc.

We get that and we'll have our running game ready, Tyler can scramble, and the bubble screens will have some room.  I believe we're going to see an entirely new offense Saturday.  I just hope they execute.

Agree with the turnovers comments. That's the key. Hang on to the d*** ball.

- Win the turnover battle
 - Special Teams
 - Pressure on Cato. Pressure, pressure, Pressure. Our Dline is small, but fast, so linebacker help, stunts, blitzes, whatever it takes to disrupt the true freshman.

I'll cheat and say I want us to look like a complete/balanced football team.  Not one with a glaring weakness somewhere we have to account for.  We can pass block and throw/catch it, run block, not get overly torched by the run or pass, and etc.

Can somebody hit a pull up jumper for me?.....

Fewer than 5 penalties and/or 40 penalty yards
Strum and Flading are supposed to be good. If they can contain Curry, that will be gravy.

Adding to what's already been covered:
- Would like to see Tettleton start making progressions through receivers. Haven't seen him come off one receiver to another much which could lead to picks.
- Better kickoff coverage. NMSU took one back and Gardner-Webb almost did. Gotta make Marshall earn their points.

I'd like to see the offensive line have the games of their lives.

If this unit plays lights out, we will win this game.

I would like to see a full game of solid effort.  Against NMSU we had a so-so first quarter, a solid 2nd and first 10 minutes of the 3rd quarter, but a sleepy 4th.  NMSU was 3 scores down and had the ball with over 11 minutes left.  If they had gone hurry-up -- especially on the drive that started with about 9 minutes left -- they could've have made it too interesting.  Last week against G-W, we had a sleepy 1st quarter (maybe due to a lack of film on G-W), an awesome 2nd quarter, but a sleepy 2nd half.  Even with 2nd string in, we should've gotten more than 2 FGs.  In the first two games, we've outscored the opposition 74-27, but it's 40-0 for the 2nd quarter.  That leaves 34-27 for the other three quarters, and 7-7 in the first and outscored 7-3 in the 4th.  We're going to need four solid quarters (or more) to beat Marshall.

We will get by.
We will get by.
We will get by.
We will survive.

Agree with Pataskala.  I want 20 minutes of solid football.  Play smart and disciplined.  Im interested to see how Tettleton responds and adjusts to playing a defense that is able to limit the running attack.  I also want to see that the Kickoff coverage woes from NMSU have been eliminated.  No offense to our friends in Boiling Springs, but the Running Bulldogs were relatively easy to contain.  Marshall obviously has a talented team and quick return men.  With our kicker and punter we should win the special teams battle, as long as we have decent coverage.

Would like to see the defense stop the run, the offense run the ball and the special teams create field position.  Simple.

Marshall's O-line is solid. I was at the WVU-Marshall game in Morgantown. I thought they were solid in that loss.

If the Cats need to win the line of scrimmage ...... they win!

Most games are won on lost at the line of scrimmage. This will probably be one of those games. I'm looking for this game to show just how good, or not, Ohio's lines are.
