Kyle Snyder Sees Action

I like what I saw. Strong arm, strong runner. Tough, physical guy. Still a little raw but should be a great #2. I think it is important for him to play and get more game experience. I think we should groom him in case he gets pressed into action.

Your statement couldn't be said any better. I was anxious to see him in a live game as well. I think I'm just excited that we are watching guys take snaps that have come in here as freshman and who have started their collegiate career in Frank's system. I don't think that's been the case since Everson.

What impressed me most about him was one running play where he ran for 15 or so yards along the sideline. As the DB came over to knock him out of bounds, Snyder lowered his head and gave the DB a pop with his shoulder pads. He could've ducked out of bounds, but instead go an extra yard or so. Tough kid.

The thing that worries me is his interception was telegraphed, gotta focus on checking down

I wasn't impressed by our overall offense but thought Tyler looked good at QB. Strong arm, runs well and looked fairly accurate in his passing.

Perhaps the first quarter offense would have been less anemic had it run the ball a few times more so perhaps the game plan was to get in some passing other than in long situations. There was no need after completing a long pass getting inside the 10 to run a designed passing play dropping back deep into the pocket. What happens, tackle or running back doesn't protect the backside and the starting QB is lucky to not be out for the season with the blind side smack down resulting in a turnover in the red zone--very bad.

Other than the touchdowns, Tettleton completed a long crossing route with lots of zip and pinpoint accuracy--which impressed me--past memories of similar throws by formers would have resulted in a pass bounced to the receiver or thrown behind.

As for Snyder, his first attempt resulted in the pick. Bates went medium and someone running the same pattern deeper on a roll to the right. As was mentioned in other comments, Bates didn't get many touches and I had been focusing on watching him when he was in there. So I saw this particular play clearly. He was open early , immediately after his cut to the sideline, as I wasn't watching Snyder, but could see it was a pass, I couldn't tell why he didn't get the ball to Bates. Then you could see the db closing and I looked back towards Snyder wondering if he had tucked it or was getting sacked and there he was looking at Bates and then throwing--surprising results?

Man that Moore has some quick reactions. The Carpenter pick resulted from an assist by Moore. Moore was going in for the tackle of the intended receiver when the ball deflected and in a sudden move at point blank range Moore went for the pick instead and the ball deflected off him and skipped into Carpenter's hands farther behind. Carpenter must have had some running back in him or perhaps it's just in his genes as he weaved nicely back up field!

I honestly don't think I was watching the same game. The offense sputtered against a 1AA defense when he came in. Everyone knew we were running the ball every play when he was under center. When they finally decided to mix it up with a pass, he threw an awful interception. He had some nice runs, but I'll take Bates as a running QB over Snyder. I hope Tyler is healthy all year.

695--Hope you can see a replay of Snyder's quick cuts and strength in breaking arm tackles. I thought he looked pretty good for his first game action.

I agree -- other than the pick, I thought he looked very good. His toughness reminded me of AE. I would liked to have seen Vick, though. I understand he's probably our most talented QB since Cleve, according to some I've talked to who have attended practices regularly. I've also been told he's a very quick study, and he's picking up the playbook at a good pace.

How mwny times does one see Bates running E/W. Far too many. Snyder ran the ball N/S. For his 1st game I thought that he did very well with the exception of the interception. He will be a very good back-up. In my opinion, Bates is better is a better in the wildcat formation.

Bates runs more yards than anyone on the field...the only problem is, he just moves sideways. He thinks he can outrun anybody (and in some cases, maybe he can), but he needs to cut down on the E/W running.
