Maybe about 19,000-20,000 in the house, so that means over 3,000-4,000 no-shows.

I would say this number is accurate.  The tower side looked really sparse, especially early.

A little on the high side, but not much. I had to park on East Green, which I think is the farthest away from the stadium that I've ever had to park. Victory Hill was packed, but I think 23k is still a little high. 20-21k would be my guess.

Good student turnout too. At least until halftime.

It looked a little sparse throughout the game.  The endzone seats that used to be for the Band is a waste. Very few people there.

Agreed...OU tends to score a lot of points in the final 5 minutes of the first half.  Having silence from the band after TD's and FG's because they are walking down to the the field is just insane.

Good crowd overall until the mass exodus by the students after the band (or in the case of last night, bands) plays.

Gman and I sit on the top row on the student side and still saw a massive amount of students coming from the student tailgate area about 6 minutes after kickoff.  Are they scanning student id's or something, because I've never seen the line that long.

Rooting for Akron is like cheering on the Taliban.

The high school bands had a lot to do with that number, I suspect. I have no doubt we will see a larger crowd vs. Marshall, assuming the weather is OK. A good turnout considering that it was, well, vs. Gardner Webb.

FWIW, Marshall did not sell out their allotment of tickets for the upcoming game.

Really? That's in direct contrast with their chest-beating.

There will be lots of Marshall fans, but it will be at least 65-35 in our favor. I expect a great student turnout, which will help to significantly swing the numbers in our direction.

I wonder if the OSU - Miami (FL) game will have any bearing on the attendance for our game. Yes, both rosters are decimated by suspensions and whatnot, but the battle of two of the three biggest cheating scandals from the offseason still has buzz, if for just that reason. FWIW, I saw far less Buckeye gear uptown than I'm used to seeing.

Uptown observation #2: The expanded Jackie - O's is amazing. It occupies the space formerly occupied by Skippers. Jackie - O's hasn't done away with the space they had always owned, but the new space is like an entirely different bar that only shares the name with the space next door. It certainly doesn't feel like drunk barn like Crystal, CI, Cat's Eye. It feels like a bar you could find in downtown Chicago.

Uptown observation #3: Months ago, I think in recap of the Delaware basketball game, the LOVE wrote about slow service at the newly-renovated Pigskin. Co-sign. There were maybe 15 people in there yesterday afternoon, but despite a platoon of staff on hand, it took at least 12 minutes for my spinach dip.

Actually we did sell out our allotment of tickets for this game.  We have a ton of fans buying up tickets directly from your athletic department.  I just bought 2 myself.

Are you high?

We've been buying tons of tickets directly from your ticket office because we sold all of ours...

I was standing right next to McBin when we had multiple Ohio athletic department personel, including he AD, tell us Marshall sent back their tickets because they didn't sell all the ones Ohio gave them.

You may be buying them from Ohio's department, but you didn't buy enough from your own department before they sent them back.  Thanks though!

Just for fun, I clcked on to the Ohio ticket site last week for the MU game.  There were literally hundreds of tickets available in all but the most choice seating areas. Say, an average of 300 - 400 in 8 - 10 sections and, as of Friday, we are several thousand short of selling out.

I can't really blame too many students for leaving at half-time. The game was actually pretty boring and we were playing Gardner Webb. Most of the students sitting around me had no idea where that school was from, they didn't care about that game.

When Marshall comes to town on Saturday I expect the place to be jumping.

Okay, well we'll see then... don't be surpised when our fans noise drone out Peden like in the past.

Yes, droning is something most Marshall fans do very, very well.

I'd agree with this. Both sides were mostly full, but the corner sections were less than half full. I was really impressed with the student turnout, though. People in O-Zone shirts filled half of the one side of the stadium (and the bands filled the other).

I was surprised by the number of o-zoners in the game video I saw. They don't leave at half time do they?

When we used to consistently suck students almost always left after the band played.  Lately they have been alot better, however when you are up a good amount on a FCS team and its night time on a weekend the students are gonna leave to go party.  There are always two constants with most students for football games, if OSU is playing at the same time we will have lower attendance and if the game isn't entertaining and its at night they will leave early.

+1

This bodes very well for the Terd game!

It also brings back to the forefront a decision I still can't wrap my head around...Why in the name of all that's Holy are we still sheltering opposing benches on the Tower sideline?  And in closer to their crowd no less...I swear the Akron game (that sent us to the MACC game a few years back) should have been proof positive to the powers that be that visitors should be forced to bench in front of the O Zone!  I guarantee they'd be truly "Relentless" given the opportunity to hound the Terd bench Saturday night!

Why we give away such a large component of home field advantage is beyond me...

The answer is easy: It's a MAC rule, instituted a few years ago.
