Okay, so this is just for fun, but...
In his weekly picks column at CBSSports.com, Brett McMurphy makes this comment:

Northern Illinois at Kansas: NIU and Kansas might not seem like a very attractive matchup, but with the long-term uncertainty of the Big 12, Kansas might want to get used to it. This could be an annual conference game for the Jayhawks. Kansas +6½

Brett's column is here

I think NIU stands a good shot of pulling this one out.  Will be pulling hard for them, for sure.  Even though they aren't a great football team, we all know conference affiliation means more than it should, and NIU is already picking up a few votes -- a win here can only help.

Sheridan's odds have NIU favored by 6 1/2.

Some people on the Marshall board have Kansas and KSU going to Conference USA. The New York Post has them going to the Big East as part of a new East/West divisional line up that would include 4 divisions for B-Ball.

I agree NIU can win this. Anyone think Ball State can catch USF sleeping after their win in South Bend? Can Toledo close the deal that we couldn't in '08?

Good grief. The conferences, through their names, demonstrate they can't count and have no clue about geography. Miami (The U) needs to leave the ACC and anchor the new Atlanta Division of the 16-member PAC 10.

As for Toledo vs. Evil Empire: I was pipe-dreaming a pleasing outcome; then I woke up and realized this is Michigan-WMU all over again, I am afraid.

As for Ball State: USF is not Indiana.

Yeah, I think NIU is our only shot here. I'll watch Toledo vs. OSU and hope for a Bobcat '08 type of showing.

Maybe they meant NIU to the Big Twel?

As for this week's games, NIU may be a lock, Toledo should at least make it close, and BSU hasn't a prayer unless USF has been celebrating all week.

The big question of the week, though, is: Will EMU beat Alabama State?  Unlike Howard (1-10 last year), ASU had a winning record last year (7-5).  We should find out whether EMU is for real and has a serious chance for the FCS championship.

KU is going down if NIU brings their A game.

As far as the casual fan is concerned, the Big 12 is dead but as Corso says...."Not so fast my friend"

Behind the scenes cooler heads and their law teams are hammering things out as it makes no sense for KU etc... to have to travel to the Big East with their non revenue sports. Their Athletic Dept. will suffer big time.

The Sooners are all jazzed about the PAC whatever. Two time zones and the entire Rocky Mountains away from most teams. Can you imagine flying the girls softball team to play at Oregon, California and Washington in successive weeks??
Makes no sense, but .we like in a world that makes no sense most of the time.....

Hanging in there!

Iowa State, Missouri, Kansas and Kansas State would fit better with the Big Ten if they increased to 16 teams.
This would preserve some historic rivalries and reduce travel costs. I would do this instead of taking any Big East schools.  This would force the SEC, ACC and Big East to counter.

West Division of the Big Ten.
Wisconsin
Minnesota
Nebraska
Iowa
Iowa State
Missouri
Kansas
Kansas State

East Division of Big Ten
Penn State
Ohio State
Michigan
Michigan State
Purdue
Indiana
Northwestern
Illinois

SEC- adds Texas A&M, Clemson, Florida State and Ga Tech
ACC- adds Syracuse, Pitt, West Virginia, Connecticut, Rutgers, South Florida and Central Florida
CUSA adds TCU
MAC- adds Cincinnati and Louisville with Temple and UMass bringing all-sports.

MAC-East
UMass
Temple
Buffalo
Akron
Kent State
Ohio
Toledo
BGSU

MAC-West
Louisville
Cincinnati
Miami
Ball State
Northern Illinois
E.Michigan
C.Michigan
W.Mic higan

I'll be pulling for the same but they just announced last year's leading tackler (MLB) will not play and this will be his replacement's first start.

ouobobcatjohn -- I think the SEC will be looking at states/regions where they don't already have members.  Such as North Carolina, Viriginia/Virginia Tech, Maryland, etc.  And, if you have Texas AM, why not Oklahoma or Missouri and etc.  Florida State, Clemson, Georgia Tech, etc. don't bring them more TV exposure.  Those areas are already covered by Florida, South Carolina, Georgia, etc.

I also don't see the MAC scoring any current BCS members.  Those would end up in CUSA or something like it.  The MAC is too small time, unfortunately.

If I'm not mistaken, this player (Moll) originally committed to Ohio before signing with UT.

He also had 11 tackles and an INT in Peden last year...
