With Frank talking about taking the program to the next level, do you think there is any chance there will be any changes at any assistant coaching positions?  you have to admit that the offensive side of the ball has been pretty mediocre to bad statistically, while the defense has seemed to better in certain areas like takeaways. Non doubt Frank is loyal, but I have to wonder if changes might occur one of these off seasons.

Yeah I love me Cats....but we need to beat some one other than Wofford and LaLa.....coaches will move when some big wins occur.

It's always a question of whether, if you elect to replace someone, you'll end up better off, or worse. In the short run you are often worse off. That said, if someone simply isn't getting it done, they need to be replaced. Solich faced that situation in the past, and fired several defensive and offensive assistants, and ended up with a much improved staff. I would presume that if that is needed now, he will recognize the need.

Keep in mind that coaching continuity does have value, and is one of the reasons for expecting Ohio to continue to be near the top of the MAC.

Being near the top of the MAC is apparently not  exactly where Frank wants to be.  He wants us to go to the next level.  My question has been -how do you get there?  Get an IPF, recruit differently, hire different coaches, change conferences, schedule differently, lower your academic standards?  He made the statement about not being where he wants us to be-how does he get us where he wants us  to be?  I'm just wondering if new coaches might be an answer.  Continuity so you are losing the Big ones may not be the answer.

As far as the Nebraska changes, he was forced to by the admins if I recall.  Not sure there is that much pressure here to win 10 or more games a year.  It only got him to the end of the regular season the next year  anyway.  It's not his style, for sure.

I honestly do not know the answer to that. When I first came here I underestimated the difficulty of that because I didn't account for the population density and income distribution in the surrounding counties, nor the fact that most Alumni live far away. Perhaps the best that can be hoped for is incremental improvement each year.

True, but I would guess that he learned from it that when change is necessary, it is less painful if done earlier, and that change done too late may not be good enough.

Great thread. While being disappointed with certain play calls and game strategies this past season I feel that having stability in the staff is very important. While it is true that a chain is only as strong as it's weakest link, a coach can be brought up to speed in short order if given a chance.
You do not get to the top Div. of any sport if you are a poor coach.  I realize that not all coaches are cut out to be the head coach. (See Charlie Weiss...)

In the Non BCS conferences a whole bunch comes down to simple team chemistry. If the staff is gelling as a unit that will definitely have a great impact on the players chemistry.
I guess I am as frustrated as any that we seemed to implode the last two games but I have to trust the people getting the big bucks to earn their keep and make the right choices.
Hopefully the recruiting and off seasons will prove beneficial to solving the Bobcats weaknesses.

Hanging in there!

GO BOBCATS!

Piss.  There's just too much about our offense and defense that's stodgy, showing no imagination or ability to game adjust.

And how many times did we have problems on placement kicks with rushers coming straight up the middle?!

I'll buy that some of that is physical talent (or lack of same).  But the lack of evidence of coaching smarts applied is somewhat severe.

We got annihilated by kents and Troy.  Should not have happened.

Where's the band?!
