FWIW, Weather Channel is calling for snow showers in Boise Tuesday and Wednesday next week, then highs in the 40s with a 20% chance of precip Thursday and Friday.

We will get by.
We will get by.
We will get by.
We will survive.

As I've posted,I have a friend who is a Meteorologist for Honeywell Systems.

He says that, even with all of today's sophisticated forecasting "gadgets",

anything after about 18 hours is an "educated guess".

We flew out to Athens in November.

When we left the forecast for our return flight,2 1/2 days later, was for heavy rain, and flight delays at Newark.

The heavy rain never happened.

We were delayed.

But only because, due to decent weather, planes were waiting for gates.

This Athens resident's "forecast" is rather gloomy.

I made a comment about the Athens News crowd in a topic maybe a month ago. This is what I was referencing.

And what exactly is the "ANews crowd?"

It's part misguided pissing and moaning about D1 athletics, part editorial writing in the same style as Andy Rooney at the end of 60 minutes, part combination of the two.

The guy isn't wrong. My wife works for the university. We've had to live with $20,000 in pay cuts over the last two years but the football team is going to waste several hundred thousand to go to Boise. Don't get me wrong, I'm not against it and we love the football program and we both really like Frank but the university is certainly sending a mixed message here.

If its not too personal,it would help knowing what your wife does at O.U.,and what her pay cut was based on.
That would help to put that significant of a pay cut in perspective.

She’s a PhD, not adjunct so she has office hours and classes. keep slashing her teaching hours. If you are not tenured you are paid per class. Ergo, they keep her in her office working on “retention” (students that are at risk) about 32 hours per week. Just a couple of years ago they had no problem having her in office 40 hours per week and teaching 3-4 classes per year. The numbers are just down, all over the place.

I actually felt sorry for this guy's poor persuasion skills. I assume he has a Ph.D. and can't communicate well enough to come across as any other than a whiner.

He actually has a very valid point. Administrative costs are a huge problem in higher education. He can't throw in any numbers as it relates to trade-offs? Does he make any comparison of sports with any other administrative costs? Nope.

I feel for faculty whose pay/roles are reduced. I feel for the students whose academic experience suffers. I am not convinced that athletics is a root cause more than it is a convenient scapegoat.

Are you talking about the emeitus professor who wrote the letter to the editor or the editor of the paper?

Football and basketball are always going to be easy targets at MAC level schools because the salary to revenue ratio is out of this world. I mean, just the two head coaching salaries put the programs in the red. But, they’re necessary evils.

The bowl revenue system seems like a losing proposition for most of the MAC just based on the travel alone, but is a cost of doing business at this point in college football world. At least being the only football game on national tv that day still gives some hope of trickle down benefits with the extra eyes and advertising for the university.

From a recruiting stand point alone you can’t not take the bowl. Whatever the bowl. But the payout never covers expenses for these banana bowls.

Weren't we in one bowl relatively recently where the payoff was at least equal to expenses? I'm fuzzy on this, but I thought that did happen once. Was it the Independence Bowl? Or, am I mistaken?

After Frank’s first couple of bowls the “novelty” sort of wore off and the AD starting reigning things in.

One thing that will help with this bowl is that the entire band is not going hence a lower cost to attend.

True, there is a lower cost by only sending 70 or so members of the 110.

But still disappointing to the members of the 110,especially the seniors, who
won't get to go.

Quite honestly, with all of the shenanigans this year and the fact that they'll be spending New Years in Boise as opposed to with family and friends, I'm not sure too many people would actually be upset not having to go. As it is, any upperclassman who wanted to go was able to go.

As far as I know, they are still suspended.

But,just like during the season, they can participate in events like games.

You may want to ask bobcat110 about 110 members not being upset about not being able to go to Boise.

If they're upset about not being able to go it's probably becuase they're not getting the chance to hang out with their friends which they still can't do in Athens.
