What was that all about? We have an offensive lineman split out doing a cartwheel at the beginning of a play. When behind in the game? That is telling in of itself!

Hey, it went for a first down. The ends clearly justify the means.

And on the same play the TE was lined up at the tackle position and slipped down field for a nice gain. Everyone complains about lack of imagination, you get it, it works and someone still complains.

You're right, about as imaginative as a 3rd and Goal from the 7 Draw play.......

Tired of this. Put Frank out to pasture and get a new coach. Abysmal enough in the attendance numbers on tonight's game, and the rest of the year. Great, we had 20K for the Fiami game, but at 1.50 a ticket, more inclined to not renew my seats since I can get more value from discounts than I can my actual tickets.

That was pretty hilarious and athletic for a 300 pounder

Nobody despises to lose more than I do. That's got me into trouble over the years, but it also made a man of mediocre ability into a pretty good coach. Woody Hayes

Formation was designed and game planned. Player did the kart wheel on his own.

Wow, a big guy did a cartwheel. We lost, who cares? Maybe Frank should have been thinking of how to run Rourke more or how to run Tuggle more than how to do gimmick crap that in the end, didn't matter.

I didn't compare it, but I assume we ran the same formation as the team last year where the guy just fell down backward like he was dead. In that formation the player in that position is "covered" such that he can't go downfield and isn't in a position to block so they are basically a decoy/distraction to the other team.

I watched the entire game and specifically remember that play but did not notice at the time our lineman doing a cartwheel. And I don't think I've ever seen that sort of thing in 5 decades of watching all levels of football.

The move is illegal in lower levels

I only care about 37-34. Maybe more practice on getting your cleats on the other team's throat and keeping it there and less gymnastics.

Couldn’t agree with you more! At the time we were behind. If, while he is standing on his head, we throw an interception and the guy runs right by him on his head for a pick 6, this board would have exploded! Let’s be 1st class and win! I’m still troubled by the numbers 37-34.

Solich on what went into the trick play featuring junior offensive lineman Hagen Meservy's cartwheel against Western Michigan:
"It was trying to interject a little bit of fun into the game when it could be. Obviously, the idea with the formation was to use a little trickery and try to get a little confusion and that just led to the cartwheel, which maybe would add to the confusion. He could not go downfield, so he either had to stand there or do something backwards, so that's where he came to."

On the trick play going viral:
"I've heard from a few people about it. All have seemed to think it was funny. We haven't gotten a lot of criticism from it. It was a pretty good cartwheel in pads from a big guy, so we couldn't ask for much more."

I really like plays like this. We had that great trick play at Akron two years ago with a direct snap to the runningback followed by a TD pass to Rourke, and we had the offensive lineman touchdown catch vs. NIU and now this play vs. WMU. What is one point in common with all those games? They were all losses.

Losing sucks, but if we had won these games, it would have been a funny talking point among the fans just like the onsides kick bouncing off the player's head was for the Kent State game. And win or lose, these plays draw attention to the program for the plays themselves. But, most importantly, I like these plays because playing football should be fun for the players. It's a great sport and they should be allowed to have fun while they're out there.
