Can someone please explain to me the point of this? Is it so just in case he wins the MAC title then he can retire and Ohio isn't footing the bill for two coaches?

Also before its brought up, if you don't think this impacts recruiting then you're nuts. Athletes pay attention to how long they think their future coach might be around. I have to think an almost year-to-year contract doesn't provide a lot of faith in recruits' eyes.

If Coach Solich were to retire, I doubt the university would be responsible for paying out the rest of the contract. If HE decided to leave, wouldn't he forfeit the remainder of his contract?

Yes, a buyout only applies if he is fired, not if he voluntarily resigns or retires. Now it may be that a booster, Monroe comes to mind, is trying to work out a deal where he gets an extra $2 million to resign immediately.

Better situation than South Carolina has. They want to dump Will Muschamp but his buyout is $19M and even with a stadium seating over 80,000 the University can�t afford the buyout.

There are bound to be many views on this negotiation being there is a new AD.

I for one believe that Frank is in the drivers seat for many great reasons;
Here are a few of my reasons.
1) Results achieved on the football field since he became the coach
2) Improvement in graduation rate for the football program
3) Responsible for raising the funding necessary for the indoor practice facility.
4) He is a class act and is recognized as so throughout the college football community.

I don't think that Frank would ask for more than a 1-2yr contract, reasonable, very reasonable.
My last thought is centered around the idea; "Where could the AD go to find a new coach that would be able to take the program higher without incurring the risks associated with any coaching change."

I question #3. My wife and I donated to the project and never heard a peep - or received any acknowledgement - from Frank. It was all Schaus & Co.

The IPF was touted as a facility for the entire university,not jut football.

So I would expect the "thank-you" to come from then other Frank.

Same with the Academic Center.

That was for all athletes,not just football players.

That being said,in my opinion,no Frank,no funding for either facility.

OK, then. The last time Frank asked Schaus for a locker room renovation, there, again, was no solicitation or acknowledgement from him. He wants nothing to do with fundraising. I believe a younger, more aggressive coach would play a more active role in growing the program's resources.

Never got either a request or thank-you from other then the Athletic Department.

I didn't contribute to that.
Maybe someone who did could say if they got a thank-you form the coach.

Who knows,maybe there's an NCAA rule prohibiting coaches from responding.

I keep buying football tickets and Frank has not personally come to my house and cooked dinner. What gives. And not a single offer to babysit.

I can't go into details, but you would be surprised what Frank has done in the fundraising arena at OHIO. Let's just say it's been under the radar, and that's the way Frank wants it. Some of your speculations on this subject make for good, enjoyable fiction reading.

I donated $1,000 to the IPF and a smaller amount that I can�t remember for the football locker room and remember getting several thank you acknowledgements for both.

People donate for various reasons. Mine was general support for football and that the IFP would be for many sport�s including track. My daughter had a pretty good high school career pole vaulting with a little D1 interest her sophomore year before injuries her last two years.

She decided to go to Georgia because she wanted to go there and decided the wear and tear of training two to three hours every day 50 weeks a year was not worth it to vault D2 or D3. An opposing HS coach who coached several State Champions encouraged her to walk on at UGA, but she decided not to.

With that said, she learned a lot of life lessons and leadership in high school sports. I had fun volunteering as a student in the OU Sports Information Office and the experience & referrals helped me land a job right out of college. I gave because I knew students in different sports would benefit. It was a small way to �Pay Forward�.

The original thank you letters, occasional handwritten notes from student athletes and having my name on a donation plaque in the IFP lobby was plenty of acknowledgement for the levels I have given over the years.

From what I hear around campus this is a very accurate take on Solich's involvement on fundraising for athletics.

Fully agree re Shaus. He was the QB for the indoor facility.
