As most everyone knows, Ohio has not won a MAC Championship in football since 1968. Ohio has also never won a football game against a team ranked in the Top-25, which is actually even more surprising to me than the MACC drought. That said, I'm curious to see what people view as being the most important to them when it comes to Ohio football in a given season.

Every year one thing is certain. One of the 12 MAC universities will win the MAC Championship. If I were to go back 10 years before Monroe induced panic around Solich trying to win the MAC it was regarded as ultimately more prestigious to win a bowl game. Giving away the MAC Championship in the 2011 title game and then Tettleton's late season meltdown in 2012 was the beginning of bitterness over Frank not up a MACC. If Frank wins the MAC in 2020 its only one MACC in 16 seasons so it doesn't compensate for not winning in the previous 15. Instead if he won in 2011, 2018 and 2020 for arguments sake its a fair amount of MACCs with six division titles. One could say in that case the 2005-2010 period Frank was still developing the program and MAC success followed later. He did win bowl games in 2011, 2012, 2017 & 2018. Bowl wins stay with a school regardless of conference affiliation. Its more of a barometer of level nationally than a G5 conference championship. Nobody talks for example of Boise State's WAC football championships but they remember that Fiesta Bowl over Oklahoma.

Most Memorable Bobcat Events Attended
2010 97-83 win over Georgetown in NCAA 1st round
2012 45-13 victory over ULM in the Independence Bowl
2015 34-3 drubbing of Miami @ Peden front of 25,086

Once we finally end our championship drought, my perspective may change, but until that time, it sits firmly at the number 1 spot.

Not sure where you're getting your facts but I never remember a significant number of people claiming that a made for tv single game was more important than a conference championship. A bowl is not a tournament game like the NCAA basketball tournament. A conference championship is a measure of an entire season's work. A bowl game is just one game for any team that happens to win half its game. No comparison at all.

I'll pick none of the above. I want us to be competitive, graduate our players so they have success in life and no scandals.

The above poll is one Monroe would approve of. However, back in those days, when I posted a poll offering that as an option, being free of scandal, etc, it came out ahead of a MACC for most people.

At the current state that Ohio football sits in, and frankly the rest of the MAC and the G5, conference championships are the most important thing to hang your hat on. Ohio will never compete for a national championship and if that's the case, then what are they doing? Just rolling the balls out to play and give everyone a good show? No.

The easy answer is MAC titles. The real answer is probably a G5 bid into a NY6 bowl until Ohio's circumstances probably inevitably change and they're relegated to a division lower than the Power 5 and/or compete for national championships with the FCS. But for now, NY6 bowl is the dream season. NIU and WMU proved it can be done.

But to get there you first have to win a MAC title.

And of course we all want a good, clean program. That's a cop out, cmon. Nobody screams and yells "yahoo!" when players get busted or the AD gets NCAA sanctions. Except maybe The U.

The MACC is obviously the goal for all 12 teams. I'd say winning the MACC, finishing in the Top-25 and winning a major bowl game would be the ultimate "Dream Season" for any MAC school. Because let's face it, a national title (in the FBS) will never, ever happen for a MAC school. But a combination of two of those three would be pretty damn nice. With most of the bowls that the MAC does play in, they're essentially lower-tier exhibitions that frankly, carry little weight in the end. Sure it's nice to go to one and win and end the season on a positive note. But the matchups, destinations, opponents and game atmosphere are normally pretty bland. I honestly care very little for many of them. So unless it was winning a major bowl, I'd say winning a MACC or finishing in the Top-25 would cap off very good seasons. You'd obviously have to have a very good season to end up in the final Top-25, and it's possible to do so while not winning the MACC. I remember that happening to BG in 2003 when they finished ranked but without a MACC. However, you could have a rather average season and still win a MACC. We've seen that happen with some of the upsets in the MACC like Akron (over NIU), Buffalo (over BSU) and Miami (over NIU) in past years. Having said all that, finishing in the Top-25 might appease the masses the most.

Agreed. This should be the goal at every amateur program.

The above post is one that I will choose. Football is not basketball where every team gets a mulligan and all are invited to the league tournament. Basketball teams can finish as a 9th or 10th seed and still win the league tournament. Basketball, softball, volleyball and baseball has two opportunities unlike football. These sports invite at least half or more of the league schools to the conference tourney. Football is a different breed. They haven't won a league championship under Frank, but Coach Solich has done wonders for this program compared to what it once was.
