Very interesting, as always. Thank you very much for posting these articles. In this case, it's very interesting, and unexpected, to see the high offensive line grades, since the offensive line has been a particular area of concern. That bodes well for the rest of the season. It's also good to see Caesar with a good grade. Developing depth in the center of the defensive line is critical, and Baker had a good game against RI, while Caesar graded well against Pitt. Both need to get those good grades consistently, but so does the entire rest of the defensive line.

Other than Dorsa, Hagan, and Caesar, the grades for the defense were poor, and while no doubt Pitt had something to do with that, the defense needs to improve. For Ohio to win a MACC, the defense needs to lead the way. Last year the defensive line was graded at 87.6, and the secondary graded 90, so the ~59 grades for both against Pitt leave a lot of room for improvement. The 55.6 grade for Ohio's offensive skill positions also needs to improve.

I don’t understand how these grades work. Conner had 13 tackles officially and a pass break up against Pitt and is ranked 5th in the nation in Run stop percentage. But grades poorly? I must be missing something. Anyone help me out?

Here's an article about how they grade defense:
https://www.pff.com/news/pro-how-pff-grades-run-defense

The article didn't give a specific grade for Conner. I would presume he graded 100 on the 13 tackles and the pass breakup, but there were presumably other plays where he got blocked, or failed to complete a tackle, and thus was downgraded by PFF. In any case, the grade, and specific things to work on, that he got from his coach is far more important than this grade. This grade is just a novelty, a piece of interesting information, that may give fans another perspective.

Thanks L. C. that makes sense. He sprained his AC joint and missed a few tackles in the fourth. I didn’t realize how costly that could be.

It's kind of a shame that these posts stopped because the PFF grades gave us an independent perspective on where the problems are. I suppose it's possible that they stopped because PFF is a paid site, and they don't want the numbers given out to non-subscribers.

Or the fact that grades are not a total picture and not everyone grades the same. I can give you a dozen different grading scales. Bottom line is just win Baby

As I said earlier in the thread, the only grade that really matters is the one the players get from the coaches. Since, as fans, we don't have those, the PFF scores were interesting as an independent perspective. I would never claim that they are perfect, only that they were interesting.
