It's interesting, and important, to take a deeper look at the Bobcats performance as they move into their toughest 3-game stretch of the season. Starting with a visit to Heinz Field to battle ACC representative Pittsburgh and coach Pat Narduzzi.

The folks who take that deeper look? Pro Football Focus. Here's how they saw Ohio's performance on Saturday.

Thanks for these helpful posts. I hope you will keep them up all season. Those sort of confirmed what I saw, that being that Cole Baker was excellent, but he needs some other DTs to step up. I also found the OL grade to be about as I suspected. While you just have a grade for the entire game, I felt like they improved a lot from start to finish, and so if the overall grade was 65.9, they might have been 60 at the start, and 70 at the finish. I think they will be fine. In any case, I'm looking forward to these posts throughout the season. Thanks.

Yeah, there must be a lot that goes into the grades because sometimes the results dont seem to reflect the grades.

Not trying to hate, trying to understand.

For instance, the Bobcats' offensive line score of 65.9.

I understand that its a team sport and the success of the offense to an extent involves how the other parts of the offense is performing and the defense, but how would a 65 out of 100 makes sense for the offensive line who: rushed for 7.3 yards a carry on 38 carries? Yielded 1 sack and 2 pressures for the entire game? Did not punt a single time? Dont know if URI was graded by PFF but did their d-line grade at 50%?

Its not like Rourke or the RBs/Receivers were under duress the entire game and really overcame a poor offensive line performance.

Judging on the eye test, I dont think the offensive line got an A plus but they were pretty darn effective as a Unit, no? what else really should they have done better?

So a 60-70 is about an average grade on the PFF scale. 70-80 above average, 80-90 great, 90+ elite. The grades also reflect individual performance better than stats. A scheme or happenstance can cause a unit's stats to look great and that not be reflective of their "performance". I get it doesn't matter, and the results are what matters. But this helps us analyze for future results, and judges how well individuals play within the system.
