Phil Steele picked Ohio to win the MAC Championship in his 2019 football preview. He has Ohio the clear favorite in the East and picked Toledo in the West and has Ohio beating Toledo in title game. You know UT wants nothing to do with OU after the last two beatdowns the Bobcats put on the Rockets. Street and Smith and Athlon also have Ohio vs Toledo in the MACC. I'm guessing Lindy's has the same prediction.

Pretty sure Ohio was picked to win the East last two years. We saw how that worked out.

Preseason prognostications and accolades are nice ... but it's time to finally finish the job and live up to the hype

True, but if you’re going to point that out, then it’s only fair to mention that Ohio has also won the East when it wasn’t picked to do so.

I want a MAC Championship in football more than most could imagine. I ask myself - self, what do you make of the Frank Solich era?

The guy simply rescued us from the ruins of college football that couldn't get out of the shadow of the overrated dump in Columbus. He is a legend folks.

I've said and done some things at OHIO Games that I would like back. All of it centered around my overwhelming desire for the program to win. I've left empty handed on more HC Games than I care to remember as well as the infamous TT 15 second play in Oxford (with only 12 seconds left). That said, there have been many more big wins than bad loses.

The Fiami beatings, rolling over some pretty good Temple teams and some epic whacks to the head of Terd Nation. We still need that MAC Title but I would trade that for a win over the Luckeyes any day. It will never happen given that dump isn't willing to leave the 43210 confines. Throw in the intended distance created but the clown institution that is the NCAA and it's a mute point.

We have had some really tough mid/late - season collapses. I can still see the fat guy from Kant rumbling 60+ yards to a TD leaping over OHIO DB's like Herschal Walker.

The UC melt-down is still fresh. It just seems we let the important wins slip away at times.

To me, the focus is now on Pitt. I have not had this many alumni buddies interested in meeting up for a game in a long time. Back-to-back roadies with Marshall in there will let us know where we stand early.

I am not convinced where the Offense will come from outside of the greatest QB in OHIO history but I am looking forward to, what should be, a really strong D.

Frank made Saturdays (and Tuesday and Wednesdays) relevant again in Athens. At one point, I wasn't sure that would happen in my lifetime.

Counting down to RI. I look forward to the game preview from Fake Jeff McKinney!

Let's Go CATS!

PS - Rudy Rott now a Bobcat Legend as well.

As that say, that and 2 bits, wait, with inflation, that and 30 bits will buy you a cup of coffee. ;)

Still, it's better than a kick in the pants. While the team picked first absolutely doesn't always win, the team picked first is more apt to win than the team picked second, who is more apt to win than the team picked last. I used this treasure trove of back data to look at prior predictions for MAC Conference finishes:
http://www.stassen.com/preseason/consensus/2018.html#mac

I went back to 2000, and using the East and West, that makes 38 data points, 19 years times two divisions. 63% of the time the team picked to win a division finished first, or tied for first (but didn't always win the tie breaker). 16% of the time the team picked to win a division finished second, and another 16% of the time they finished third. Only 5% of the time did a team picked to win a division finish lower than third (Ohio 2007 finished fourth, and Buffalo 2009 finished 5th).

Historical data is all well and good, but in the end, we agree. It's time for Ohio to finish the job.

Winning the MAC Title is all that is missing from Frank's great run at Ohio. I would be nice to see him get that Championship and cap off what he built here at Ohio. 50 years without a MAC title is a long time. We have been so close, but have been fortunate to be a contender most of the last 15 years. Roark has had a great career too. If he can deliver that title he could go down as one of the all-time greats to play QB at Ohio.
