Low/No buzz on OHIO draft prospects

It seems that, at this time of the year, we start hearing whispers about Bobcats being drafted. With the draft very near, are there any rumblings about OHIO players going this year? I kept waiting to hear about Lowery as a big time draft prospect, but it doesn't seem like it's materialized.

Based on that, while Irons will probably be drafted to the CFL, Lowery is the only one with any chance of being drafted to the NFL, and if he is drafted, it will be late. A couple others will probably get some form of free agent deal, and another one maybe a tryout.

Mel Kiper mentioned Joe Lowery as a sleeper OL prospect on the previous First Draft podcast with Todd Mcshay on ESPN. So I wouldn�t be surprised to see Kiper possibly bring his name up late on day 3 of the draft.

I think Javon Hagan has a chance to be a late day one pick or day two player and maybe one of the highest draft picks in modern Ohio history. He is a complete safety; he has the physical tools and they play him all over the field. I'd be interested to see how fast his 40 is: barring disaster, I see him getting a combine invite. I got to think worst case he will time in the 4.5-4.6 range but could be faster. He is not now as fast as Mike Mitchell was but I think he is a very well-rounded player, probably better than Mitchell all-around. Last year Hagan jumped several passes and, if he catches more than half of those this year, he'll finish in the 7-ish int range. Then NFL scouts will look at the tape and see him playing in the box, in man, in zone, special teams, and he will be on the radar.

Punter Michael Farkas and K Louis Zervos have a real chance to be drafted late or make a team. Michael Farkas is very impressive, probably the most so since Dave Zastudil-he may not boom punts quite as high and far but is very versatile and accurate. And he is clutch. Cant put a price on that. Zervos did not have his best year from an accuracy standpoint but did significantly improve his distance, going from 45ish with accuracy to 50+ish with accuracy. Huge difference. If Zervos can put up accuracy numbers close to his first year, I think he has a chance.

Austin Pleasants has a chance if he has a good year and gets stronger and quicker...gotta be tough to transition from right to left as a senior but I think he has the skills. And succeeding at both left and right tackle gives you the prized versatility.

Nathan Rourke may get a late draft pick. If I am the Baltimore Ravens building a program with Lamar Jackson at QB I am definitely interested in how Rourke does this year. if you want a backup with a similar traits, you might have something here. Lamar is quicker and probably faster but Rourke executes better. Rourke is probably the best QB running the ball I've seen in Ohio history- he has everything: all the physical and mental traits. I've never seen anyone at Ohio understand option offense like Rourke does. Also, his accuracy improved significantly last year but adding another 5% this year would do wonders for scout's perception of him: a nice, clean progression: 55/60/65....Where I would guess I'd hope to see improvement is his throwing accuracy early in the game: I dont know for sure but I think his second half accuracy is much better than first half so far.

I dont think Lowery is getting the credit he deserves. I would tuck him away on the roster for a year or so and then i got a sixth man, starter.
there is no way I would be in charge of a team and not draft him in the 5-7 round.

Im surprised too that Papi White hasn't had more run. I think someone like the Colts or Patriots takes a chance on him and he makes a roster. The Colts had Lavon Brazill and remember what Ohio has to offer. I watched almost every Ohio game for the past 4 years and never saw a team being close to neutralizing him. He is bulked up to the mid 180s and runs high 4.3-low 4.4s. there is no way I would be in charge of a team and not draft him.

Is there anyone who deserves a shot more than AJ? When you look at him physically vs say, OSU's Weber, is he not comparable? And whose attitude do you want at the back of the roster?

Very funny, and I absolutely agree, though I don't know your neighbor's daughter. It seems that the general consensus among the so-called experts around draft time is that nobody has any real idea of who is going to work out in the NFL and who is not. There is also reportedly a lot of intended misdirection put out by teams to throw others off the scent of who they might be taking, even though each team clearly has established needs that they are trying to shore up. All that said, I don't know how one seriously covers the NFL during this time.

As for any chances of any of the Bobcats being drafted, it seems that teams are more prone now to take chances on certain MAC players in the later rounds, so I wouldn't necessarily rule anyone out.

I'd be stunned if Lowery wasn't drafted. The Browns brought him in as one of their 30 allotted player visits and Dorsey really seems to focus on those 30 players when drafting.

The TV talking heads mentioned during the Frisco Bowl that TE Connor Brown would draw some interest from NFL teams, so he may either be drafted or become a UDFA.

Lowery is rated the 259th best prospect by Kiper. There's 254 picks in this year's draft, so Lowery is very much on the border of being a pick. He'll certainly get a shot as undrafted free agent if he's not picked. He ranks Ouellette as the 55th running back, White as the 78th wide receiver, Anderson as the 23rd center. The guys other than Lowery sound more like training camp invites.

Agree regarding AJ,whatever team he would end up on would automatically become my favorite team. One of my all time favorite Bobcats and hope he gets a chance and takes full advantage of it. One great dude.

He was part of a high school offensive line that had about 4 all-state linemen, and came to Ohio and did well, but he was hampered by injury most of the time. In his 6th year, it seemed like his injuries were finally under control, and he probably had his best year. I wish him good luck.

Still believe that Papi and AN are not fully appreciated by NFL.

I want those two on my preseason NFL team to compete against the bluebloods. These Bobcats are men who know how to win!

I concede, I am biased in favor of Bobcats, but it is a good and healthy bias!

And, now we wait for the free agent signings. No players taken from Ohio, but also none from Buffalo. Who will get a UDFA contract? Who will get a mini-camp tryout?

I'm surprised to see that no Bobcats were drafted. I read about this team reloading every year with studs at every position on the field. Wonder where the disconnect is?

I�m not really surprised none were drafted when you consider the total number of draft eligible prospects. However I am very surprised that more have not signed undrafted free agent deals with teams yet.
