I have loved the alternate jerseys and the reveal videos as much as they next person and can remember when the first "blacked out" jersey reveal video went viral on Youtube....it was awesome!!!

But when you are the only bowl game on tonight and are on the main mothership espn channel from coast to coast, why wouldn't you opt for the regular uniform school colors and easily readable "OHIO" on the helmet.

Splitting hairs...maybe, but to me its better brand recognition and bottom line thats what college sports is all about.

Oh and for all you young'uns....get off my lawn!!!!!!

Agreed. It seems once we hit MACtion, it's all some sort of alternate look.

I guess this new version of the black helmet looks great close up, but it is a branding fail on TV.

I am even okay with alternates during the MACtion season.

When OUr game is still buried on a espn2, 3 or espn+, by all means run out in whatever jersey combo will put some butts in the Peden seats and maybe even sell some nostalgic fan gear.

But when you are the main sporting event happening nationally on coast to coast national TV, why wouldnt you want your dominant school colors displayed.

The black helmet does look great, and i think the blacked out jersey was and is one of the coolest things that has happened to this football program in a long time.

i just dont think i would have pulled it out here on the national ESPN stage.

Heck, it might have even made bigger news if the team came out in the regular unis.

Younger generation likes alternate colors. The love having combos in game day apparel. I expect to see more. I would like to see the 1920s Bobcat jerseys.....blue and silver. Our original colors.

I expect since Addias redesigned the black uniforms with respect to Russell's design, and since we are using the black almost exclusively when on national TV, that they might be planning to make the primary design on the white and green jersey and pants the same number and striping style as these blacks. This new alternate black has large numbers in the back. We may see that on white and green as well.

If that is what they are planning then I am not a fan.

A blue and silver MACtion tuesday, wednesday, or thursday night alternate jersey would be awesome!!!

I would definitely make the drive from Dayton for that game and buy all the OG school gear I could!!!

Our original school colors were blue and white. It was abandoned soon after we started playing football in the early 1890s. We couldn't find blue and white football uniforms. The graduate student who was coaching the team was a Dartmouth grad, and he ordered uniforms from the same company that supplied the Dartmouth uniforms. So they were Dartmouth green. If we used blue and silver uniforms in the 1920s, it must have been some kind of a throw back and then substituted silver for white. That's interesting, because I didn't know that story.

I read somewhere, back when I played, that they wore blue and white but one game they wore blue and silver. I remember because I thought of the old Detroit Lions uniforms back in the day. I doubt I will ever find it online but I hope I can.

Let me know if you do. I'd love to see a story about that. I'd also love to see us wear some throwback uniforms -- with either blue and white or blue and silver. That would be really neat. It would satisfy my historical bent.

My young nephews who live nearby Frisco and have never been to an OU game (although they love OSU) absolutely loved the uniforms. That was noteworthy for them. Whatever gets young people interested in our program is good with me.

We went undefeated in the all black unis this year and were a scoring machine!!! As far as I'm concerned wear them every game if we get those results.

It's all about recruits...They love the black unis.

I have no problem with them. Just like I don't mind being called OU, Ohio University, Ohio U, etc.

All I care about is wins.

I can live with the black unis but I do wish the OHIO decals on the helmet were justa bit more prominent. But hey, if that uni gets them to a Rose Bowl, I'm all in!

Think the only people worried about branding is us, I doubt any recruits were sitting at home thinking "man, wish the bobcats wouldn't have watered down the brand tonight"

I can agree with this. If the Green Ohio decal had white trim to give it definition. But the black unis are here to stay. Just think....we won in Texas against a California team. Papi got to play close to home. Just feels like we opened ourselves to a new market for future recruiting. And the commentators just kept spewing great things about us and our walk-on program. Everything was perfect last night.

Back when the original black unis were introduced, some on this board went ballistic. But the players liked them and they won. If it helps to motivate the players, let 'em wear what they want.
