Nice article in The Athletic today by Chris Vannini for those that subscribe.

https://theathletic.com/725929/2018/12/20/ohio-celebrates... /

I'll share one quote I thought summed this season up best.

“I always look at the ones that kind of got away,” Solich said. “There were a few we won close, too, but it very easily could have been and maybe should have been a 10-, 11-win football team, Wish we could have done more to help these guys, because I think they are a special group.”

Had this discussion with some friends after the game ... definitely one of Solich's top five wins at Ohio.

In no particular order ... my five

SD St
at Toledo 2016
at Penn St 2012
vs Pitt in debut
Utah St (first bowl win)

I realize that we got San Diego St. during a down year, but this program is no joke. This is really a remarkable win in my book for the Bobcats, and it feels like the Ohio program climbed yet another rung up the ladder in the process. Wow! It feels like Christmas came early this year.

Good list. I will always cherish the 41-6 thumping of Marshall. A few of those Temple wins early on were big too.

Also the early 2006 road win over a good N. Illinois team in Frank's second season was the catalyst to that team winning the East and getting in a bowl game.

My exact thoughts. That 2011 win against Temple at home was one of the best atmospheres at Peden I've seen. I believe that might have been the first ever "Bobcat Blackout" game and the students showed up and showed out.

Old Ace was slinging the pigskin that day. I think he threw for 300 that day.

I totally agree. Of the teams Ohio's beaten in the bowls, I would have to guess that San Diego State's most well known. Utah State is sort of prominent and UAB's getting a lot of publicity, but neither have the football history and pedigree of San Diego State. And has anyone ever heard of Louisiana-Monroe, before and after the Independence Bowl? Other than BYU, San Diego State is the most prominent team a MAC team will be playing in a bowl this year, and we just smacked them on national TV.

Many people have heard of Monroe.

That was my favorite game also. It was like a perfect storm of things coming together to make the atmosphere in Peden electric.

I've seen crazier things happen.

Well - If you were actually at that Penn St game as I was - It was Friggin' Awesome! I lost my voice for about a week after doin' the "OU/O Yeah" with our contingent up in the high endzone second deck corner of that massive stadium - And the Whole Place Heard Us!
