There is probably no one that has been on Albin's ass more than me, I been criticizing him for 14 years about his play calling, Albin has a bad pattern of not being able to put together 4 quarters of play calling and in the past 14 years it has cost Ohio football games,
But last night, Coach Albin called a 4 quarter game, He actually stayed on course and threw the ball when the Aztec's wasn't expecting it, I believe in giving credit where credit is due and last night the high powered SDSU Defense was on their heels all night thanks to Coach Albin's play calling.

Oh and Burrows Defense was special also, shutting out a team is no easy task.

Great game called all the way around, both "O" and "D". This team improved every week and got better and better, on both sides of the ball. It is way to easy to blame play calling when things are not going well. If you sit back and take a longer look at things, there are usually reasons why a team is limited to what plays you might have in the game plan. It might very well be injuries, it might be some young inexperienced players in key positions that must be considered, etc etc. I can only laugh when I read some of the posts on this board when people say some of the things that they come up with. It is so easy to blame play calling when you don't have access to practice tape, or injury reports, or tendencies of the opponents from scouting reports etc etc etc.
Ohio is fortunate to have a very solid coaching staff who are dedicated to our program and our kids who make up the program. Go Bobcats.

I agree, Gman, that Albin called a good game. Also, I think some of the passes when the defense was lined up in a run defense formation had to do with audibles by Rourke. Another factor I think is that AJUTM (or AnyoneUTM) is a much more successful play when you have a good OL. Our OL is the best that I can remember in a long while. I've noticed in all our our blowout wins that the OL has been opening holes big enough for most BA posters to run through. This was not the case in many years in the past.

When the OL is opening holes, the OC can mix up plays and keep the defense on it's heels. When the OL can't make holes, the OC is going to look bad because nothing will work.

In the last 14 years there have been several games Ohio has had nice leads only to blow them and lose in the end, due to bad play calling, off the top of my head Cincy this year, Albin usually stops doing what gets him the lead, but last night he didn't, so Kudo's to him for that.

Agree about the Cinci game, Solich said as much.

AJ made it work with his high yards per carry. It was huge to the overall scheme. He had a monster year in 2018 and his toughness at RB is going to be one of the most difficult things to replace next year when 8 yards and a cloud of dust is replaced by 4 or 5 yards.

This is frustrating to me. Most modern offenses have a short passing game as a Plan B for nights the running game is being stopped.

But, if the OL is being dominated, you get sacks and interceptions if you try to throw too much. When the OL is in control, its win-win, you can run, and you can pass. When the OL isn't, it's hard to run, and it's hard to pass. In between the two extremes is when the OC makes the biggest difference.

After all the years of a bunch of folks saying how bad Albin is/was, I wouldn’t be totally shocked if he’s not hired by a P-5 team in the future. Crazy, yes but you never know. He could make 3-4 times what he’s making now. I agree that it’s not likely, but you never know.

The only opinions that matter are those of coach Solich and those of the players. I have attended Bashes with players families and they seem to see Ohio's coaches as a real plus, a reason to be a Bobcat. After the bowl Ouellette and Crouch were vocal in support of their coaches. Coach Albin and many others on the staff have been at the P-5 level, have worked for more and decided to buy into what Ohio offers them and their families. At Ohio the staff works for the HC, the AD, Ohio's Administration, not one of those "bunches" of donors. There is more money elsewhere, but, at what cost? Ohio/Athens must be pretty great for a family, right?

Albin should be commended, he kept his foot on the gas pedal and we showed no fear facing a top 20 defense. He did a great job.

Nobody despises to lose more than I do. That's got me into trouble over the years, but it also made a man of mediocre ability into a pretty good coach. Woody Hayes

Hats off to all the coaches. We finished the year on a roll. I wish we could get a piece of a P5 school right now but let's knock off Pitt in 2019.

2 plays cost us 2 wins. One against our rival and one against an in state school we should have finished off. Not something I will soon forget but the late season run was as good as I can remember in my Bobcat life.

Going to miss seeing many of these men lineup for our Cats as they move on and graduate. I wish them all the best. True football players that make me proud to be a Bobcat. F the P5 circus.

And now he’s voted the national running back coach of the year by a bunch of his peers -previous winners including the San Diego State RB coach-by FootballScoop. Never heard of that, but he deserves it.

A nice way to recognize Coach Albin. He deserves it and he has elevated our running backs. Glad he has stayed here with Frank.

Met some of his family in Frisco. Very nice people.

If this recognition helps Ohio recruit more Ouelettes, Irons and Browns that will be great.
