UM Coach Martin disses Ohio? the MAC?

Can't find an online link, but today's Dispatch had a story on how bowls might bypass Miami. Included is a comment Miami coach Martin made after his team's win over Ohio last month about the lack of a trophy for the Battle of the Bricks rivalry.

"It's a pretty big deal! I'm like, Where's the dang trophy? I guess it's not that big of a deal if no one can afford a trophy for the rivalry. It just shows how cheap the schools are in this league."

It's been over 3 weeks, but this is the first time I've seen this quote.

He was seriously criticized by the fans on Miami Hawk Talk the day after the game. He does have point, though.

Hasn't Miami traditionally viewed CIncy as their "rival" while the Cats were assigned Marshall as their MAC rival. I'm not saying there isn't logic of having a brick trophy, it just seems like once you have too many rival trophies they become even more meaningless than they really are.

He was called into the AD's office the next morning. Apparently, the school President and Board didn't appreciate equating climbing through pooh in the Shawshank Redemmption to spending 4 years at Miami. Sounded right to me though.

I think his sentiments and attitude would be a little more justified and respected had he been running Miami roughshod over the MAC for several years running.
