Nearly half of the 78 teams needed to fill the bowl slots have become bowl eligible. Eleven more teams became bowl eligible this week, bringing the total to 37. Here's the list of teams that are in, that aren't in yet but are at .500 or better (48), and are out (13). The handful of teams at 4-5 are listed but not included among those likely to get in. Notre Dame can get a bowl that has a tie-in with the ACC and is included in the ACC's total. Hawaii plays 13 games, so they need to win seven for eligibility. Liberty is in a transition year, so they might need NCAA permission to be in a bowl.

TeamRankings chances add up to 79.5 eligible teams with 79 teams having better than a 50% chance. It has been almost exactly 79.5 every week.. This counts Liberty as 0% since as with 5-7 teams they would need there to be less than 80 .500 or better teams to have any chance.

The MAC has been a significantly better league than the Sunbelt and CUSA in most recent seasons. The MAC right now has the lowest OOC win percentage though the vast majority of computer systems still rate it higher than CUSA since the OOC slate was substantially tougher. In most recent years it has been the MAC that has been well over its allocated slots and needed other bowls to free up space with P5 leagues not covering their allotment. This is much less likely to be a significant problem this year. Even if there are 81 or 82 eligible teams 6-6 could easily end up being good enough. Since that number is under 80 right now odds are good that it would be good enough. I'm sure that Ohio still has higher goals right now.

Independence Bowl again? Against Duke from the ACC. I would love it!!! Blue Devils vs Bobcats has a nice ring to it. So does the Battle of the Four Letter Schools.

I'm not sure that these guys know all the details. I think some take more care than others. I'd think Boise or Dallas is most probable because it has been longer for us that the other possibilities.
