Midweek MACtion with the top two offenses in conference games.
It's really great to see the O, the D and special teams put it all together.
A real test for the defense because Ragland has just one pick in 139 MAC passes.
May be tough because we have a short week while Fiami has 8 days since Buffalo.
It was good to rest the starters in the 2nd half at WMU.

Solich is 11-2 vs Fiami, 5-1 at Oxford.
Unlikely that Solich's record vs Fiami will go unnoticed by their coaches.
Clash of our O Line and they're D, which is giving up 107 yds/game in MAC play.
Keep playing like we have.

Miami has lost to 6 teams, 5 of which are bowl eligible or will be and a bunch of close games. This will be a really good test for the boys. Wouldn�t count on a Ohio blowout of them.
Can our offensive line keep up the recent success and can we keep our turnovers to a minimum? If so, we may win in a shootout.

From today's Hamilton Journal News:

What makes that whole scenario becoming reality even more unlikely is a defense Martin referred to on Thursday as “depleted.” Senior safety De’Andre Montgomery was listed as a starter on the depth chart, but Martin revealed that Montgomery was due for a magnetic resonance imaging test. He could join linebacker Junior McMullen and defensive tackle Nate Trawick as seniors who most likely are done for the season.

“We possibly could get some guys back for Ball State,” Martin said.

Our running game will grind them down then 3/4 big plays passing will break them.
Our defense may give up a few though.

Just thought I'd get that out of the way first.

Last time I saw a game there was 2012. That's not gonna happen. Ohio 42, Redchickens 7.

Anyone else going down there?

Amen. That 2012 team should've annihilated Miami. Redhawks went 1-6 to finish the year ... that one win (you guessed it) ... Ohio.

In 2014, Miami finished season 1-5 ... and had Ohio dead to rights in that game. They were up 21-0 before blowing the game. That was a horrible Miami team that won only two games. I don't care if Ohio was 6-6 that year ... they should not be in a dogfight with that Miami team.

In 2016, Miami was 0-4 and was awful. They had not made the switch to Gus Ragland yet at QB. Ohio was clinging to 10-7 lead most of 2H and needed a fumble in the end zone late in the 4th quarter to seal the win. Ohio was dreadful on offense that day only gaining 197 yards.

In those three years, here are Miami wins:

2012: UMass, Akron, SIU ... and Ohio
2014: UMass, Kent
2016: Kent, BG, EMU, UB, CMU, UB, Ball (literally the six worst teams in the MAC that season)

Miami was not good in any of those games ... but pushed Ohio to the brink all three games. That 2016 reeled off six straight to end the year against the worst of the worst in the MAC and did it when they switched QBs to Ragland. So that is a much different Miami team than Ohio squeaked by.

This is my point ... Ohio might be 5-1 in Oxford with Frank. But the last three trips vs. pretty bad Miami teams have resulted in very close wins and a loss.

This year's version of Miami seems like they are more than competitive and have been beaten like a drum by Ohio for 5 straight years. I'm a little worried about rolling into a sleepy Yaeger Stadium on a weeknight and taking care of business. This game scares me a bit.

But the WMU result certainly helps the confidence.

So it looks like a potential � trap� game, especially since it�s Miami and a lot of the guys my not look at them as a rival. I expect a really tough game, but thank God they don�t have Gardner.
If the guys play like they have recently, it should turn out okay, we�ll see.

We didn't get burned deep at WMU but that might be due to a freshman QB and the rain. That won't be the case at Fiami. This'll be one where we find out whether the DBs have gotten it together.

Big thing OHIO has going for it is OUr QB has been recently fantastic at optioning into the OPTION! When he sees the way the opposing D is lined up and can audible into that play it makes it like taking candy from a babe! Go Rourke!

I'd love to watch a game where we pound the Reds____s without throwing a pass; just coming at them with rotating running backs and the QB and pounding the sheet out of them. Then get to the point where the QB is gracious to his host and points to where the play is going and still go for 5 or 6 yards! Three backs with over 150 yards each...it is November--isn't that when Frank says you got to see how Tough you are? Rival, on the road, in a meaningful game.

With the injuries reported on Miami's defense and the excellence of Ohio's running game that will be run by relatively rested players, its difficult to see miami keeping it closer than a few touchdowns if Ohio takes care of the ball. Interesting that the line is only three.

As has been said, they have struggled at Miami, so maybe that is it.

Also, Ohio appears to be on a rare run historically in terms of margin of victory in 3 consecutive games against FBS schools. There have been a few 3 game streaks that included victories against FCS opponents which were not included. I may have missed a streak or two but the current 3 game streak could have the largest margin of victory on a 3 game streak in the last 50 years: Ohio has won the last three games by 118 points. The next closest streak in the last 50 years I found was the 2017 streak with a combined 90 point margin of victory. The 1997 Bobcats had a streak with a combined 88 point margin of victory. Given that this year's streak (BG By 35, BS by 38, WM by 45)may be the largest in the last 50 years, you'd think the score of this game would come back much closer as this is a really rare streak.

Maybe the team is just that good and a rare streak will continue?

That being said, I think the players on Ohio do not want a repeat of last November and the Bobcats will win this one by 14 or more.

Critical game for Ohio. They to win this game to have a chance vs Buffalo for the east title. This is a road rivalry game. Ohio lost last year vs Akron in a similar matchup. Tough matchup with Miami offense vs Ohio pass defense.
