Agreed.

It's that simple. We want to see Detroit? This is a must win.

BALLS can put up some points and kept it close with ND, but I don't see this one being close. Offense keeps the momentum going and the D gets some early stops:

OHIO: 56
BALLS: 21

So this is on Thursday night on CBS Sports Network? Did I miss something? I thought ESPN had the broadcast rights for midweek MAC games.

Also, up against the NFL game. Ouch.

ESPN thinks the WMU/Toledo game is more attractive, but I honestly think CBS Sports puts on a better production.

Last year the MAC cut a deal with CBSSN to pick up some Thursday night games. ESPN gets first pick. One drawback with CBS is that they often start the Thursday games at 6:00.

I think the drawback with CBS Sports Network is that fewer people know what channel that is/regularly tune in.

I will just as habit turn on ESPN to see what game is on. Bars do the same thing.

CBS Sports Network is like the equivalent of TRU TV during March Madness.

Yeah, I'm complaining about Ohio Football being on national TV...

During basketball season, in my opinion, CBSSN has the best production out there, and shows a lot of good games.

Beyond that, I see your point. I also don't know how many people actually get CBSSN as part of their regular cable package.

For some reason we're getting it, so maybe it's being included in more packages.

Given the choice, I personally would rather watch a CBS Sports production than ESPN-although Gary Danielson is often part of CBS college football.

My only gripe is that Sling doesn't carry CBSSN (in my tier/package at least and I have the one that favors sports). I get Pac-12 Oregon though so I can watch a random Oregon State-Fresno State game from 1988, though!

Agreed that, if this season will count for anything, this game needs to be won. Heck even the pedestrian 7-5 and random low end bowl game needs this win as the remaining slate has no cupcakes IMHO.

I honestly see the Cats going no better than 2-2 in their final 1/3 of the season so they really need this one.

Would love to knock off Buffalo if they keep on their run, even if it isn't to get to Detroit. If they keep on their current tear I can see their coach being an attractive up-hire and them having to hit the reset button.

Must be nice to have a high end football and hoops team at the same time!

Re Buffalo's multi-sport success, I was told recently that Buff benefits from a different funding formula than seen in Ohio, Mich., Ill. and Indiana. This results in $4M+ in additional funds that can be used for operating needs. They have put these funds to good use, attracting better athletes in FB and BB.

Bobcats have to win out to reach Detroit. Buffalo has a favorable schedule except their visit to Peden. Bobcats have lost three tough games and survived a couple games vs lesser teams. Ball state kind of in the middle, but its a game that ohio must win to remain in contention.

I'd like to learn more about that if you have any other info. All I was able to find about funding was here: https://www.hustlebelt.com/2016/4/18/11454190/midamerican...

I don't see a whole lot of major discrepancies between schools that would point to why one school sees success over others.

MAC games on ESPN are nothing more than a 3-plus hour commercial for the big games on Saturday. Very little talk of the teams playing on the field with most of the announcers' dialogue having to do with the top 20 teams meeting on their network that weekend. I don't feel like we get that on CBSSN.

Same holds true for Sun Belt and MWC games on Thurs/Friday night on ESPN, and even some of the noon games on Saturday.

I don't disagree with this, but my point is more about the visibility of the program. For us, a better produced program may be a better experience on CBSSN.

For the other 98% of the country, ESPN provides an easier to consume game.

In this case, I'm looking at quantity (more eyeballs) over quality (production value).

This is a solid point. Most cable providers etc. have their set of ESPN channels in succession so if boxing/hoops etc. isn't your thing, you would find MACtion within a few clicks if starting on ESPN.

When I had Spectrum, CBS Sports was pretty far down the list on their set of sports channels. If I wasn't looking for a certain game that I knew they were showing, it didn't always occur to me to look there for something to have on when doing laundry etc. on say a Thursday evening.

Most providers have moved CBS Sports Network up into the same area in the channel lineup as the other sports networks because it is in basically as many homes as ESPN. But even though it has become a station that basically everyone has, it often is overlooked and a lot of people still don't even realize they have it.

On this discussion on which network does a better broadcast I would rather want to see the viewer ship ratings. The ratings may help us determine which network is better for our viability.

Nobody wants to watch MAC football unless there is nothing else on. This Thursday, Ohio football is up against 4 other college football games (two top 25 teams in action), an NFL game, and nationally-televised NBA games all at the same time. The reason we're constantly relegated to the Ocho in a horrible time slot is a simple function of supply and demand.

Here's an interesting exercise:

During a MACtion game, go to the "GoBucks.com" fan forum and follow the conversation. Surprisingly large number of posters are watching our games.

I'd rather stab my eyes out with a rusty spoon than actively go to an Ohio State message board.

I just checked UVerse and CBS Sports Network is between the Sportsman Channel and Pursuit HD -- neither of which I've heard of or ever have ventured toward in my remote control explorations.

DirecTV did about a year ago. It used to be down with the other more regional sports networks, most of which the typical viewer doesn't subscribe to so there's little reason to look at that part of the guide. Dish also has it up in the same area as its other sports networks. But not all providers have moved it yet. I can't find any updated statistics but last time I looked, more people actually get CBS Sports Network than get ESPN2 but visibility still is an issue for the channel.
