...that Miami still sucks.

They actually had a chance to beat Buffalo last night, but really blew their chances with some awful plays.

Thanks a lot, RedHawks.

It helps to have the dumbest coach in FBS football. Evidence: clock management last year against UC where they clutched defeat out of the jaws of victory, and this year when they went for two in the second OT period against Army. In the third OT 2-point conversions become mandatory, so each would have had an opportunity to screw one up . . . I'm sure others on this board can supply other examples of Martin's stellar in-game coaching decisions. Miami and Martin deserve each other. It's a match made in sucksville. ;-)

Last night they went for it on 4th and 5 from the 50 down 6 with over 7 minutes left in the game. Why? Buffalo only had to go 20 or 25 yards to get in field goal range and put the game away, which they did. Why not punt and pin them back around the 10 yard line. I could see going for it if it was 4th and 1 or if there were only 2 minutes left.

I think there were two factors there:
(1) The last time Miami punted it worked out to a net-15 yard punt after factoring in the 15-yard kick-catch interference (Buffalo ended up getting the ball from almost the exact same spot that the got it after Miami failed to convert on downs in the instance you asked about)

(2) Miami's defense wasn't able to stop buffalo at all all night. Buffalo getting the ball on the 50 or on the 20 made no difference

For what its worth, I think miami made the right call going for it there, even if it didn't work out for them in the end.

I disagree. I think the punt is the right call there midway through the 4th quarter, down 1 score. I would probably think differently if it was under 5 to go or if the ball was 10 yards deeper into Buffalo territory....or even if there was 10+ to go. But midfield with 8 to go, down 6? Punt it.

I would have lined up to try to draw an offsides, taken the penalty, and then punted. #WednesdayMorningQB?
