Let me start with the good .... because I want to make sure you don't skim past it. (You know who you are)

****PLEASE READ BELOW ****

The defense played its best game of the year. By far .... for three quarters.

Rourke is something. Man, he is a really, really good QB.

Isaiah Cox had a couple nice plays on NIU defensive breakdowns ...

BUT here's the reality .... a bitter pill to swallow ... another game where they can't put it together for 60 minutes.

The defense was a straight disaster in the 4th quarter. How in the hell did they just forget that Childers doesn't throw the ball well.

2nd & 18 ... Childers 20 yard run
3rd & 7 ... Childers 32 yard run

Childers 169 yards rushing ...

And when he did throw ... Ohio DBs reared their ugly heads. Nelson got lucky on that throw to end zone that his WR dropped the TD. Once again, never turns his head. Then Hudson gets pass interference in the end zone for again ... not turning his head. Solid coaching to teach the DBs to NEVER turn their heads. Hudson had two pass interference calls in the 4th quarter alone.

Another game and another opponent rolling up 400 total yards. Only mild surprise is that 255 came on the ground.

The offense just threw up on themselves when it counted. Driving for a game-sealing score, Rourke fumbles. Ugh. Third second half turnover. And then when they get ball back ... three and out. Double ugh.

4th quarter (winning time):

Ohio - 9 plays, 23 yards, 2 first downs, 1 turnover, 0 points
NIU - 26 plays, 172 yards, 11 first downs, 0 turnovers, 15 points

Running game was abysmal. 46 yards. Gross. How many times did they just run the ball up the middle? 32 attempts ... 22 carries by RBs ... and other than Ouellette's TD on the option, I'm guessing 21 of those carries were right up the middle into the teeth of the NIU defense. Wonderful play-calling.

Rourke masks so many issues with this offense. But he can only do so much .... but his turnovers are becoming a real issue.

This just adds to the growing list of games that Ohio should've won over the past decade or so. Shouldn't be surprised. Just disappointed.

Sorry ... I'm being selfish. I shouldn't be "demanding" a team up 12 in the 4th quarter to win the game. That's just being selfish.

I apologize.

The defense is stil improving. Slowly but at least not regressing. Why we were in cover 2 on that last scoring drive I can’t explain. Terrible defensive play call. No one sane thought they would put the ball in the air. Why we didn’t have a qb spy going with gap coverage is beyond me. Bad situational football. Conservative play calling with the lead on offense allowed them to tee off on us on the last couple drives. Huge moment swing resulting in a come back win and another disappointing loss. I hope we continue to improve on both sides of the ball. Including the play calling.

Without saying it ... you're saying coaching was sub standard with game on the line.

Pretty much sums up majority of this era

We still have a shot to win the MAC East and play in the title game. Buffalo at Toledo next week is an important game and we have to take care of business against BG. The BG game with my old coach Pelini (who knows how to defend Ohio) will need a few spicy plays (jet sweeps to Papi, etc) to throw him off. Dont jump ship yet fellas!

BGSU has NOT defended anyone all year! They have a paltry 5 sacks, they actually have only created plays for a loss of a whopping total of 20 yards all season.

MAC games - 44ppg given up

Over all - 47.6ppg given up

I find this hilarious that you believe Carl has any secret recipe for stopping OHIO.

Unless Buffalo stumbles, they are in the driver's seat for the MAC East title right now*. Ohio will need to win out and will have the head-to-head tiebreaker if Buffalo wins its other games and both are 7-1 in conference.

BIG IFs...

*Buffalo plays its next three games at home before heading to Athens and then to BG.

Is the recipe for stopping Ohio really a secret?

You know you’re in trouble when your punter wins MAC East Special team player of the week. Yikes!

OHIO has only scored less than 31 points 1 time (21pts), and is averaging over 30 per game which is above NCAA scoring average and is on pace to be one of the top scoring offenses in school history. So please do not let facts get in your way.

That vaunted offense ran 9 plays for 23 yards ... had two first downs and one turnover with zero points in the fourth quarter with the game on the line.

Oh! And let's not forget they couldn't score from one-inch line vs UC and only mustered two FGs in 2H with game on the line.

Don't let those facts get in your way either

Could it be that Bshot44 is the new Monroe? I rarely check the Bobcat basketball message website but guessing you have been extremely upbeat about their progress the past few seasons.

Not to mention your facts are just wrong.

Ohio vs Kent 27pts
Ohio vs UC 30pts
Ohio vs NIU 21 pts

You're funny. What progress has basketball team made last few seasons? They've been on downward trend for five years.

But you keep looking to find a new "villain" to replace Monroe ... and keep burying your head in the sand

You better stop messing with BTC, he will go and tell on you.

OHIO is #30 in the nation in scoring offense, and 35ppg in their last 3 games. Yeah, they struggled at times, but who does not? Some of you are starting to sound like OSU fans complaining about how bad their offense is because they did not rush for 100 yards last week.

Virginia - 4-2 with quality wins

Cincinnati - Undefeated and nationally ranked

Northern - Big non-league schedule and 4-0 in conference

You are right, such a sad schedule....Sorry I got individual scores incorrect, however the fact is that the offense is still above average in production and will go down as one of the most prolific in School history.

And yet couldn't get one-inch when they needed it vs UC. Or one TD in 2H to seal a huge win.

Or put any points on the board in 4th Q to seal another game up at NIU.

Great to roll up big numbers vs UMass. Whoopie!

Executing & producing in winning time vs quality opponents is a problem right now.

They showed some grit with the game winning drive at Kent .... but that was Kent, the same Kent team that is 1-6

Wins over Howard, UMass (2-4) & Kent (1-6) aren't exactly something to boast.

They should be putting up big numbers against them! They're awful football teams.

And where was that offense before they got down 35-7 vs UVa? Easier to put up yards when opposition eases up because they're up four touchdowns.

I don't think many are belly aching about the overall success of the offense this year like you seem to be making it.

But the truth is, they did not run the ball well at NIU and ultimately it hindered their chance at winning. So why get bent out of shape because someone points that out?

Part of being a good offensive football team is executing when it counts. This team failed to do that at UC & NIU with the game on the line.
