Rather than computing a percentage of times you get points, I compute "points per trip", figuring 7 for a TD and 3 for a FG. I know that a TD can sometimes be 6 or 8, but 7 is close enough. On Offense, the MAC looks like:

Miami 5.6 points/trip
Ohio 5.5
BG 5.4
Toledo 5.3
Kent St 5.1
NIU 4.5
EMU 4.5
Buffalo 4.5
WMU 4.4
Ball St 4.3
CMU 4.3
Akron 3.8

Defensive Red Zone Efficiency:
EMU 3.4 pts/trip
Buffalo 4.1
Akron 4.3
NIU 4.5
Kent St 4.5
CMU 4.9
Ball St 5.0
Ohio 5.1
Miami 5.3
WMU 5.5
BG 6.2
Toledo 6.7

At this point it says a lot about level of competition

Quick question: when does the red-zone start in your numbers? I feel like our defensive numbers (bad as they are at 5.1 points-per-trip) are benefiting from the large number of long-scores we've given up

Exactly!

Howard only had 3 of their 6 scores from the red zone

Only 4 of UVa's 7 scores

Only 2 of UC's 5 scores

Only 2 of UMass' 6 scores

So of the 24 scoring drives Ohio has allowed ... only 11 have come from the red zone

Once there are more conference games, I only look at the MAC-game-only stats, which equalizes the numbers.

Ohio has given up a crazy number of long-field scores. Yet, even when the field is shortened, in a red-zone situation, Ohio isn't doing all that well.
