Some quick takeaways from the UMass win ...

Wow. They are a bad, bad football team. Like really, really bad. Especially on defense. Hard to imagine that Whipple survives this season.

With the being said ...

The Good ...

... offense gained some confidence. Albeit against maybe (hard to believe) a defense worse than OUrs. Either way, it was nice to see O-line show some life and see Irons and Ouelette run hard and well.

... Rourke appears to be getting back to his 2017 mid-season self. Still needs to work on the accuracy ... but the decision making was pretty strong with the exception of the early INT.

... WRs were getting into a groove

... Hey! We have a TE! Who knew?

... Zervos (again)

The Bad ...

... Albin. Period. Quit screwing up the horrible play-calling near the goal line. Please?! It's really embarrassing he can't call a play to score from the 1-yard line.

The Ugly ...

... see above

... Jimmy Burrow's pass defense. That was a train wreck ... again. They can't cover air. UMass is NOT an elite offense by any stretch ... but once again, OUr defense allowed them to rack up 400+ yards in the air and stay in the game until late. Ohio still ranks towards the bottom of the country allowing nearly 390 ypg, over 15 yards per completion (!!!) and 13 TD passes.

3rd down defense did improve ... holding them to 5-12. Which was good enough to keep Ohio dead last in the country still, allowing over 55% on 3rd down on the season.

Ohio still ranked 125th in total defense. But good news, Kent is 127!

Still a lot of work to do if they are going to win .... not the league ... but the MAC East.

I didn't walk out of Peden feeling a lot better about this team ... in fact, I kind of felt the same way about them. The defense is a disaster ... and continues to be. The offense will need to continue to bail them out.

Guess you'll just have to hope Rourke continues to make good decisions and the running game continues to evolve. If the offense stumbles ... there is ZERO faith the defense can step-up and slow anyone down.

FUN FACT!

This marks 4th straight game Ohio has allowed a WR to put up a career-best in yards receiving

Ezzard (HOW) 223 yds
Zaccheus (UVA) 243 yds
Medaris (UC) 104 yds
Isabella (UMass) 198 yds

If I'm Mike Carrigan from Kent ... I am absolutely licking my chops!
