Maxwell looks as good as he ever has
Maleek Irons looked good
DL Knock has better speed than expected
The Cats are 1-0

This may have been more productive than last year's 59-0 win.

"more productive than a big win." I get the sentiment, probably really true. Hey, the offense is averaging 38. Maxwell QB rating over 170.

Made the WR from Howard look like T Y Hilton.

Good that Monroe cannot come on with his Hollywood impression of Jack Nicholson, telling us that we cannot handle the truth.

Good things:

We won.
If we dedicate ourselves to running the ball, I think we can.
Our 2nd string QB got significant playing time and was serviceable.
Band day is over.
The Sook Center looks really good.
I got to spend a Saturday drinking with friends.
Miami sucks.
We won.

Sook Center did look great.

Newcomer Cole Baker looks like a good one at DT.

Knock surprised me.

Irons is a load.

Skull still has $1.50 PBR.

The audio person on ESPN+ had the field mic drowning out the pbp crew, so we heard the PA announcer instead.

Good to get the win. The brain trust though has to be alarmed at what transpired. Was there ever any mention of Rourke’s status? Was he injured or benched?

A road game at a MAC school could help Howard make the FCS playoffs.

While that doesn't make things better for us, it makes yesterday's game less depressing if Howard turns out to be a ranked FCS team this season. Not many years ago they sucked at football.

They play Kent next week. Maybe a good way to measure what happened yesterday.

YTOWNBOBCAT......Good point. It will be a very interesting game. Based on all the reports Kent will have a tuff year and Howard might just be able to pull off an upset, especially is they can improve on the turn overs.

Ohio's OL didn't look dominating.
Speed at LB appeared wanting.
Disappointed that Julian Ross didn't get a carry or two to show Howard's D some unexpected quickness.
Very disappointed in the ultra-conservative play calling on Ohio's last offensive possession (just one first-down would have enabled running out the clock).

Q: As this season unfolds, will Ohio face another QB-WR combo that is any better than Howard's?

I doubt if we see any better QBWR combos

Ross not playing was also puzzling.

Hagan and Hudson are maybe OUr best 2 DBs and they were sorely missed.

Thought I would see Connor at LBer.

Hopefully the vanilla offense was intentional......if not there will be more calls for Albin’s head.

I’d like to see a participation report so I know what OL people to yell at.

1. We won
2. It was our worst performance of the year; from this point forward nothing will resemble what we saw, heard or witnessed on Saturday (please tell my naturally optimistic nature that this is the case!)

It was very reminiscent of Texas State. Hopefully the team can bounce back in a similar manner and salvage the season.

Nevertheless, talk of MAC Championships, the "Access Bowl", etc. is crazy at this point. I see a typical 7-8 win Solich team. Nothing more, nothing less. UVA and Cincy could get pretty ugly.

If defense wins championships - we're in trouble!

Ross was out yesterday.

Agree. In fact, in 3 4th-quarter possessions Ohio had a 3-and-out, a 4-play possession, and another 3-and-out. I was hoping Ohio's offensive line would have worn down Howard's defense by the 4th-quarter so Ohio could have run some time off the clock.

I don't know. If they have an incomplete pass, Howard may end up with an additional 40 seconds. That changes their approach in the final drive. I would rather trust the offensive line to win the game than any other unit. They just were not as effective as expected.

Remember that last year's 59-0 win was an anomaly. we've had far more unimpressive performances against FCS schools only to come out hair on fire the following week. (Marshall 2011 for example - we looked like we were sleepwalking in week 1, then destroyed the Herd)

Edit: the sleepwalking game was actually week 2 after we opened with blowout at NMSU.

And Texas State... yes, an FBS School, but one we should have beaten in regulation. Our pass D that day was an abomination, but the following week, we stomped Kansas who had beaten their FCS opponent 49-0 or something silly in week 1.

It was NOT an impressive performance by any stretch, but it doesn't have to define the season. Turn it into a positive.

Beat Virginia.

One good is Ohio had two secondary starters missing who should be ready in two weeks for the next game. Some other guys got good experience. Ohio won despite an awful performance. Good teams have to find ways to win when not playing their best.
