A town in Illinois is now the official sponsor of the Bahamas Bowl.

The "Bobcat Attack Bowl" is not that far-fetched, guys.

Pity the town of Elk Grove Village, which is located mostly in Cook County. Most of Illinois is bankrupt.
http://www.news-gazette.com/opinion/guest-commentary/2018...
Cook County has the largest out-migration of any county in the country:
https://www.illinoispolicy.org/cook-county-has-largest-po... /
Elk grove itself peaked in size in 2000 at 34,727, and it was down to 32,931 in 2016, per wikipedia, and it has probably fallen more since. Out of control spending has been hidden by not funding pensions, with the result that most government pensions in Illinois at both the state and local level are significantly underfunded:
https://www.bondbuyer.com/news/unfunded-liablities-on-the...

As a result businesses and individuals can see the handwriting on the wall. Their tax rates, already among the highest in the country, will no doubt have to go much, much higher, and thus the out-migration; they are fleeing before the inevitable tax increases.
https://www.wcia.com/news/local-news/il-property-taxes-am...

If the result is what you would expect, increased out-migration, it will be a double edged whammy, because not only will tax collections have to rise dramatically, but property tax values could fall, necessitating even more dramatic tax increases.

I've got to give Elk Grove Village an "A" for effort. They aren't just sitting back and waiting for bad things to happen; they are actively trying to fight the trend by attracting new businesses. I wish them luck, but I honestly can't imagine any sane business wanting to move to Illinois, and I especially can't imagine anyone wanting to buy property there.

Mark I can't imagine you would have to win the jackpot, maybe just runner up at the Office Pool Bowl Draw. We could even take a collection if we were within reach to make up the difference! This is just bizarre on so many levels. This poor town in Illinois has the right idea, but as LC said, talk about a fool's errand. What business is going to watch the Bahamas Bowl and think, "Wow we need to relocate to Elk Grove!" They're more likely to say, "The state's tax rate is how much and their pension and bond rating is what?" How the mighty have fallen!
