If you study the 1967 NFL season, the story of the Packers run to an NFL championship is one of the most inspiring sports stories ever. The Ice Bowl NFL championship game was played in -13° temperatures and the wind chill was even lower. I can remember watching this game as a kid. The classic Starr sneak behind Kramer's wedge block on Jethro Pugh with 15 secs left was one of the greatest plays in sports history. The Packers then went on to defeat my Oakland Raiders 33-14 in Super Bowl II in Miami in much different conditions . I remember that game well.

I heard that the Packers' defense could tell whether Dallas was planning to run or pass by watching "Bullet" Bob Hayes at the line of scrimmage. His jersey had a pouch for warming his hands. If he had his hands outside the pouch, he needed to have them free because he was going out for a pass. If his hands stayed inside the pouch, it was a run and they didn't have to worry about him.

One ESPN announcer caught Rourke telegraphing what the play was going to be in a game early this year. If Nathan wiped his hands before calling the signals, he needed to have hands dry for a pass. If he didn't, it was a run. I didn't see that after that game.

We will get by.
We will survive.

As a 12 year old I hated both of those teams. Our hero had retired (Jim Brown) and Dallas beat the Browns in the semi-finals. As bad as the Browns are now, no animosity toward the Packers any longer but it still makes my day every week that Jerry's chumps lose.

NFL Network will run a special on the game Friday nite.

Frank Gifford had his best line ever describing the cold: "I think I'll take a bite of my coffee..."

And of course, there was Jerry Kramer's block on the winning TD, which helped springboard his diary of the '67 season, "Instant Replay", into best seller status the following year. It is a classic that I still reread from time to time. Kramer will probably make it into the HOF when the announcement is made at the Super Bowl...

I HATED the Packers back then because they won all the time. Being a Browns fan, the Cowboys were the real rival. Dallas beat them in the East in '66 and '67 and the Browns knocked them out of the playoffs the next two seasons, which was great. I remember watching the Ice Bowl and being amazed how the field looked like a sheet of ice.
