Hello all! I have made this topic to suggest different chants depending on the team we are going up against at home for the future. Trying to brainstorm some for NIU and Ball State especially.

Also: Currently in the process of making a new dirt sheet template if I get the O-Zone rolling soon. I found some pretty funny dirt on Northern Illinois and hope I get to use it on the 25th!

Don't forget, "You Came a Long Way, Just to Lose."

Of course....we have to win to use that one. 😄

Will note that. Might do a few Cameron Crazies "OOOOOO" when Toledo is in possession.

No "might". Every three pointer or dunk do this, and any big defensive possession.

This brings something to mind. Some guys like silence when at the line, some like a little background noise. If it's possible to get player preferences, it couldn't hurt.

That wouldn't hurt either. thought about adding "MVP!" after Sears makes a foul shot.

Follow opposing players on their social media and see if they post anything stupid or embarrassing and use that as ammo. Probably harder now than it was back in the day as a think young people are more guarded about that stuff now than in the past.

Look up opposing players' bios on their team roster and see if you can find anything useful. For example, if you look up JT Shumate's bio on the Toledo roster, you'd see that his sisters Katie and Emma are on the women's teams at Kent State and West Virginia, respectively. "Katie's better!" and then "Emma's better!" when he'd go to the free throw line.

Sometimes you might see an upperclassmen player whose bio will say they're undecided on a major. "What's your major?"

This will probably require printing dirt sheets and putting the specific chants on them.

I'm sure with enough digging I could find stuff. I've been also thinking of ways to take the dirt sheets digital like a GroupMe or Snapchat. The funny thing about NIU - they had a "professional" sports motivational speaker speak to them this year.. Sounds like they are getting desperate.

I recently found my old hard drive from college, so when I get some time between parenting 2 young boys, I'll try to see how many of the old Bobcat Bulletin sheets I have saved there. I made them in at least the 04-05 & 05-06 seasons.

As for 'dirt', the situations that are novel seemed to work best 'back in the day'. If I remember correctly we found the nickname Nick Dials's girlfriend called him. 'Nicky-poo' or something like that. Called him that the first time and he immediately turned and looked at me. Continued all game. May have worked as he was 1-5 from 3 that day. https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/boxscores/2006-01-24...

As for a chant, I just texted a friend this week wondering why we never sang "I Wish" a guys who got blocked.

https://youtu.be/cmXZOI7cM0M

"I wish I was a little bit taller, I wish I was a baller
I wish I had a girl who looked good, I would call her"

Donno if that song is known by college-aged people these days... but the Band loves singing songs so I'm sure talking to them pre-game could set it up. lol.

I follow @barstooloh on Instagram and they do a mediocre job at best at promoting games. They do, however, have 40.5k followers and do post about OUr games from time to time.

Barstool Sports is a brand every college kid knows.

Might be worth reaching out to them to see if you could work together to promote the OZone? I think our athletic dept. could create something different if they could somehow partner with Barstool to do giveaways that students would actually care about. Barstool merch seems to be pretty popular and their social media presence is something that most college kids are connected to/engaging with on a daily basis.

No idea if this is even plausible as I have zero college athletic admin experience, just an idea that came to me.

I loathe what the Barstool brand is all about, but you can't deny their reach and influence. If this particular profile can be bothered to post something other than Court Street mishaps, it's a great idea.

I agree with Shab, but wouldn't hurt to ask. I know Barstool gets a bad rap BUT kids know who they are. Would be great if we could organize a partnership. I'll see if I can reach out to them.

As someone who went to almost every game from ‘06-‘12, I would like to see the O-Zone say “you you you, ohhh you suck” whenever someone on the other team picks up a foul. Not sure how involved the athletic department is and if they are the reason why the chant wasn’t used against Ball state when looking at the notes, but it was always one of the best chants back then. I am thrilled that you guys are back though! There is no better place for basketball when the Convo has the O-Zone rocking!

Oh I absolutely agree with you, its a very toxic company. I particularly dislike their huge focus on gambling, considering their target audience is kids ages 16-22ish. I really do think they are contributing to addiction problems, either now or later in life for these young adults.

No denying the engagement through social media. Just seems like a goldmine if it can be tapped.

I've somewhat brought it back with "YOU! YOU! YOUUUUU SUCK!" but it's been up and down so far with kids knowing it. we were doing it against Ball State and WMU.

One thing I'd love to see come back is... after the starting lineups are announced, the band plays the fight song, then the O-H-I-O chant, we used to segue that right into the jumping OOOOOO thing all the way until the ball is tipped. So it would go:

O-H-I-O-O-H-I-O-HIOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.....

Then depending on the outcome of the tip, you bust right into DE-FENSE or LET'S GO BOBCATS.

It allows you guys to set the tone for the game really well, let's the opponent know just what they're in for for the next two hours. It also looks and sounds awesome on TV. A national TV date against a rival and potential last home game is a great time to get it started.

I'll definitely get this on the dirt sheet to do after the O-H-I-O! Will be stating multiple times over to stay LOUD, We will be on National TV! Also will be making a CBS poster to get on TV.
