Though not great this year, it was better than a few years ago when the MAC didn't win a bowl game. And, the MAC ended strong winning three of its last four bowl games. Here are all all results in order:

Middle Tennessee 31, Toledo 24
Coastal Carolina 47, Northern Illinois 41
Liberty 56, Eastern Michigan 20
Wyoming 52, Kent State 38
Miami Ohio 27, North Texas 14
Georgia State 51, Ball State 20
Western Michigan 52, Nevada 25
Central Michigan 24, Wash. State 21

Honorary MAC (and probably future) Member:
Western Kentucky 59, Appalachian State 38

Northern Illinois's loss should have an asterisk next to it. The refs inexplicably ran down the clock with I think 2 seconds left when the Huskies should have been able to run one more play.

I was guessing maybe two wins-Miami and Kent. Kent had over 600 yards of offense and still lost rather badly. A couple close losses hurt. but not a real bad year for MAC teams.

The clock ran down because the play was ruled a catch and the the runner fumbled the ball forward out of bounds. When the ball is fumbled forward out of bounds the clock starts on the ready. Moral of the story is hold onto the ball and they have that “other play”.

I watched a decent amount of the CMU game. Pretty decent win under the circumstances.

Maybe an asterisk that says, "coach lost this game, not the players." Went for it on 4th and 1 yard on their own 30 yards line late in the game and didn't make the line to gain. As a result, they turned the ball over deep in their own territory. Didn't hear the post-game presser, but I'll bet the coach said, this ones on me.

Well, here is an article about the ending of the Cure Bowl complete with a replay and an official statement from the MAC Commish for what it's worth.

Thanks for the rule explanation.

According to the statement from the MAC Commissioner however it seems there were still two issues:

1. Following the reception along the sideline, the play should have been stopped for a review.

2. The center judge should have been allowed to clear the center before the referee wound the clock.

I provided a link above where you can watch the replay again and judge for yourself.

I only watched the final play of the game so I didn't see the play in question, but that certainly sounds like a bad decision offhand.

The MAC Commissioner does ZERO with the officiating? In fact, he does zero with officiating in the MAC contest. Point being, he does not know what should have been done. The commissioner for the MAC, was doing his job taking up for his conference. You've seen before in Bowl games if a conference associations crew screws up, they will address the mistake, or even the home association will address the error. Here, on the paid spokesperson of the league has a comment.

Replay in the NCAA looks at every play. Replay looked at that play, they gave a booth confirmation of the rule on the field, catch and fumble. And no, there is NO set perimeter for how far the CJ has to clear, it's not a 5yd, 10yd, rule or set. The CJ only holds for substitutions, other than substitution packages (which there were none on that play), the CJ spots the ball the Referee marks the ball ready.

Now if replay did shut this play down, it's likely in the opinion of many, that this would have been and incomplete pass and the game would have been over.

C-USA Statement on Officiating During the Conclusion of the Tailgreeter Cure Bowl
Story Links“At the conclusion of last night’s Tailgreeter Cure Bowl, a replay review should have been warranted following a reception along the sideline with two seconds remaining. With the time remaining, there was a mechanical error in how the clock was managed. The center judge should have been allowed to clear the line of scrimmage before the clock was started.”

And that replay would have been catch/no catch. No catch would end the game. NIU lost. That CJ is not what lost the game for them.
