B10 apparently is close to a new coverage agreement that would drop ESPN and ABC after next year. The agreement would continue games on CBS and Fox, and would add coverage on NBC, probably on Saturday nights for football. It'll be worth about $1,000,000,000 (that's a billion, with a "b") a year. ESPN/ABC will still have exclusive coverage of SEC events, plus games from most of the other conferences. https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/34374231... .

How much would Ohio be worth in the SEC?

Most Memorable Bobcat Events Attended
2010 97-83 win over Georgetown in NCAA 1st round
2012 45-13 victory over ULM in the Independence Bowl
2015 34-3 drubbing of Miami @ Peden front of 25,086

I would have to think with the proper marketing strategy, and a couple facility upgrades, the SEC would love to get into the Ohio market. We already border SEC territory in Kentucky.

Little bird tells me that the SEC is even willing to chip in for a stadium expansion.

Vandy has the smallest stadium capacity at 40,350 so we'd need to add at least 16,351 to make it worth their while.

Peden would make a great SEC baseball venue, not so much for football. Maybe we could rent out Huntington Bank Park for home weekends for baseball. The Convo is primed to shine.

That's easy with a second deck on the East stands.

All the above being said, perhaps this is an opportunity for the MAC to raise its profile with ESPN.

Looks like it's official.

Big Ten lands new TV deal with Fox, NBC and CBS — but not ESPN

$7-$8 BILLION dollars.

R.I.P. Power 5. It’s now clearly the Power 2. A whole bunch of conferences just formally joined the MAC in the Insignificant Conference Association.

What does this mean for Clemson? Do they jump to the Big 10 or SEC if they'll take them? If the ACC is a sinking ship, they need to find another boat relatively quickly. Who are the best teams being left out from these power 2 now? I see Clemson, Oregon, Florida State, Miami, and maybe Virginia Tech and Arizona as the only other schools that are somewhat appealing to other conferences. Rutgers better be crossing their fingers that the Big 10 doesn't make any cuts.

Nobody in the ACC is going anywhere unless all parties involved are in agreement that they're willing to pay a hefty fee to do so. They gave up their Grant of Rights when they signed their deal with ESPN, and it doesn't expire until 2035 I believe.

Oregon and Washington, as sad as it may be, probably don't move the needle enough to warrant a jump to the B1G. So they're kinda stuck in limbo. The University of California Board of Regents is doing everything in their power to stop UCLA from going, in which case the next target for the B1G would most likely be Stanford. They fit the academic mold and are just another piece to solving the Notre Dame puzzle. If that were to happen they'd have Notre Dame's two biggest West Coast rivals plus their television provider. Notre Dame doesn't need the $70 million that B1G schools are getting, but it would be hard to turn down.

It all hinges on Notre Dame at this point. The Arizona schools and the combo of Utah/Colorado fit perfectly into the Big XII's hopes and dreams.

If it were me I’d stay right where I’m at and enjoy that direct path to the national championship every year.

Does this include only conference games? All HOME games? Does the home team control what games go on what network? How does revenue sharing work for away games?

The deal would cover all Big10 home games. Revenue is shared from the conference, schools do not get a per game fee for being on TV

Just to show the potential impact on ESPN/ABC, here are what might be the B10's OOC games of most interest for 2023, showing the ones that could be on ESPN/ABC and the ones that will be elsewhere:

Potentially on ESPN/ABC:

Illinois at Kansas*
Indiana vs Louisville (at Indy; apparently a L'ville home game)
Iowa at Iowa State*
Minnesota at North Carolina
Nebraska at Colorado*
Northwestern at Duke
Purdue at Virginia Tech
Rutgers at Washington State*

Will likely be elsewhere:

Toledo at Illinois
Utah State at Iowa
WMU at Iowa
Virginia at Maryland
East Carolina at Michigan
UNLV at Michigan
Washington at MSU
Louisiana at Minnesota
NIU at Nebraska
La Tech at Nebraska
West Virginia at Penn State
Fresno State at Purdue
Syracuse at Purdue
Temple at Rutgers
Virginia Tech at Rutgers
Ohio at Rutgers
Buffalo at Wisconsin
Georgia Southern at Wisconsin

The asterisked games could be on Fox, since Fox currently has agreements with B12 and Pac-12 to carry their home games. Granted, a lot of the "elsewhere" games would show up on B10 Net anyway, either its main channel or its alternate. But a game like WVA-Penn St or Louisiana-Minn could have made it a main ESPN channel or ABC. (The Ohio-Penn St game this season is on ABC.) Several could also have shown up on ESPN+, so ESPN/ABC could lose a big chunk of revenue. And even though they'll pick up SEC games, they're not big draws north of the Ohio River and west of the Mississippi.

What's clear is that some folks outside the B10's footprint might have to buy B10 Net for a game or two instead of maybe having their favorite team show up on ESPN+.

According to nj.com ,yesterday the B1G Commissioner said he sees the B1G expanding to 20 teams.

He also said also said he thinks that , eventually schools will pay players.

This might be the biggest reason I have no interest in attending the psu game this year. I'm not giving the big 14 any of my money. I almost have to question whether I even want to watch on TV (expected outcome notwithstanding).

Any chance this could lead to more opportunity for the MAC? Or does ESPN just replace Big 10 programming with ACC or the like?

They'll still have plenty to choose from, but there might be more noon slots on Saturdays. Same with CBS after losing the SEC. They're putting some MWC on at noon (Oct 1 -- Navy at AFA) but if some MAC teams were to make some noise in OOC play, it might happen.
