Use this thread for any and all updates and speculation regarding the status of our beloved leader's knee.

It looked hopeless at the point of injury, but when he got up and walked off the field I was encouraged. Seeing him walk around the sidelines also helps. If it were a huge catastrophic ligament like injury, I can't imagine he would bear any weight on it.

We are 6 days from the must-win BG game. 17 days from the MAC Championship, and 30+ days away from the bowl game.

I agree that the training staff would most likely not allow him to walk without crutches if it was feared major ligament damage but I'm just speculating.

Watching the hit on replay, it looked like he got a direct shot to the side of his knee by the defender's knee. Didn't look like a huge hit but it does look like it was a direct hit on the acl.

I wonder how quickly they can get access to an MRI? Nobody knows for certain until testing comes back.

I touched on that about 75 times last night.

Every time the camera showed Rourke he was STANDING. He was walking around the sidelines celebrating. He could've been in dream land at that point with a cortisone shot and some Vicodin, but even if he wasn't hurt, I wish he would've been sitting and off his legs.

Does Albin have media availability today?

Praying it’s not as serious as first thought. I couldn’t tell if he was hit on the knee or,if it was a non contact injury. Not worrying about if he can play or not just hoping it’s not a long term injury. Get well soon Kurtis!

I watched the play over and over including in slow motion. It actually doesn’t appear he was hit on the knee or leg at all on the play. What appears to have happened was he was pushed up high near his shoulder after his release while his leg was planted after follow through. The knee never appeared to twist or turn or anything at all. Obviously he felt something, so he at least tweaked it, but if I had to guess, I would guess it was a mild sprain at worst. I would be absolutely shocked if he suffered anything more based on what I saw. I would be very surprised if this keeps him out next game.

I'm sure Albin is going to be coy on Rourke status throughout the week. I expect Harris to start against BGSU.

I agree and I fear he is out for the championship too if we get there. Even the most mild of sprains he will be parked for a few weeks. He has a bright future ahead, that won't be risked.

If Toledo’s secondary knew anything about open field tackling or playing prevent, this injury wouldn’t be an issue for at least a couple more weeks.

Hope Rourke is OK, of course, just so he’s OK period.

As for football, I look to the D now to make sure we don’t have to score 50+ to beat BG cause I don’t see that happening.

What you saw is what I saw, and I didn't watch more than one replay. He was not hit in the knee. He was shoved over in what I thought was roughing as it occurred after the release and was avoidable. It looked to me like the side of his knee hit the ground hard, but I saw no twisting of the leg or the foot as usually occurs in serious knee injuries. I wouldn't be totally surprised if he's cleared to play next week, but the odds are he'll be out at least for the Bowling Green game.

Albin mentioned in the post game with Rob that they would know more when they doctors were able to take a look at it more. He said he was sure they would get an MRI to check it out, and that hopefully that would happed today.

FWIW - said Rourke's spirit/mind was in a good place during the second half.

Just to help out any latecomers like myself, what happened to Parker Navarro? Some sort of shoulder injury back in non-conference?

I agree with OCF, Rourke is questionable for next week until we know more. They sat him for a half in a game Ohio had control of. Could Ohio sit him in the first half against BG then trot him out at half time? Next Tuesday is for the division so he might want to get in there for the sake of playing it.

Maybe living in the NY/NJ area is different.
But around, here every hospital either has an MRI in house or is affiliated with an independent MRI facility.

I would think that, at worse, they'd have to send him to Columbus.

MRI in Columbus this AM, I was told. We will see but that win last evening came at a severe, severe cost.

Yes, they have an MRI. I had an MRI there once back in the last century, so they had one for awhile. I think OHIO athletics often uses a faciilty in Columbus that specializes in sports medicine.

O'Bleness Hospital has an MRI machine. If he is having his MRI in Columbus, I bet he is also seeing a specialist.

having an MRI machine is largely (obviously not entirely) irrelevant. What you need is the good radiologist and orthopedic/SportsMedicine doc to interpret the results in combination with the physical exam. If i were a highly regarded NCAA QB, or a 60-something who is otherwise active for that matter, i would much rather get that done by a specialist in Columbus than by whoever is working at O’Bleness (all else, insurance, transport, etc) being equal

Having had a severe compound fracture set at O'Bleness, only to be told by a surgeon in Akron that he'd never seen such poor work (necessitating re-breaking of the arm), I'd vote for Columbus resources/experts any day.

When I injured my knee during a game at OU (March of 2013), I had to wait until I could get in at O'bleness for my MRI. I'm sure the health care given to football players is better than what we received for baseball but I did not get in the next day.

When I was seeing an ENT in Pittsburgh he always wanted scans done at his hospital because he trusted them more and he could better explain to them about the angles he wanted (it also kept the money in-house). Specialists just like to use their own facilities.

At one time OhioHealth Sports Medicine at Grant downtown handled these types of injuries for Ohio Athletics. Maybe it’s changed but if I’m guessing that’s probably where he went.
