This scenario happens a lot more than people think. Coach won't commit to player starting - so player looks elsewhere - and - coach doesn't see opportunity for player so strongly "encourages:" him to look elsewhere.

Been happening forever. Difference now is the player has more control over their future.... doesn't mean they will handle it correctly, but better than the coaches having full control.

6”3 corner Andrew Wilson Lamp has entered the portal from West Virginia. Would be a solid replacement for Justin birchette next year. Was teammates with Austin Brawley at Massillon before going their separate ways in college.

You're a lock to be a high draft pick.

Why did he enter the portal ?

His dad played for Rutgers.

There were rumors he may have entered the portal to play
for them.

That got shot down pretty quick.

According to WFAN, when asked about playing for Rutgers, his answer was
"why would I want to play for a lesser program ?"

So, what am I missing ?

Word is him and Coach Day met over the weekend to discuss his future. Not sure his spot was solidified going into spring practice. That and the Columbus fans were just brutal to the young man.

The Bobcats offered former Ironton and OSU LB Reid Carrico last night, with a quick reply from Sam Wiglusz. Would love to see him become a Bobcat

Did some research and its crazy that the former #4 ranked recruit out of Ohio and #5 LB in the country couldn't even sniff the field in Cbus. One tackle on special teams in 2023. No wonder Day recruits out of state so hard.

Sometimes I think these recruits need to take off the scarlet glasses and find the best fit for them in the long run.

Nonetheless, come on down to ATown and ball out!

You see it a lot around Columbus. 99% of the best recruits go to Ohio State, even the 3 stars - because it's Ohio State and the horseshoe is awesome, the hoopla, the merch, the excitement - but then they don't sniff the field.

I have a buddy now who has played a couple downs at Ohio State, but he's buried down that depth chart - still everyone tells him he's going to the league - and if you catch him in a moment of honesty, he'll tell you he should go to Toledo or OU. He still might jump in that portal, but its tough. Its not just about you, its family pressure. Friends who are like WHY WOULD YOU EVER LEAVE OSU??!!

I mean, who knows if he will ever be an every down guy - but we're talking about a 4 star recruit who had offers from everywhere, and really hasn't played much in two seasons. Now he's basically fallen off the radar. He listened to everyone in HS tell him he's the greatest thing ever and the greatest things ever go to Ohio State. By the time you figure it out, you're kind of stuck in it. Now you don't know whether it's best to leave and start over - or just try to gut it out for that chance for glory.

Very few are like Sam who graduate and take advantage of a huge opportunity elsewhere. Most wash out entirely. I hope Sam creates his own pipeline to OU and opens some eyes. I wish we had a bigger season offensively, cause I think he was doing just that. But I'm more than happy to take their 3rd stringers if they produce like he did.

Feels like human nature to me. To be that good at anything, you have to be competitive. And competitive folks are often going to be driven to succeed at the highest levels.

comes down to speed and quickness, he just could not get sideline to sideline fast enough at that level. He could be a very solid MAC player, maybe not even at LB. Also hurt was OSU's defensive system that utilizes ONLY 2 Linebackers, and every year they have that kind of talent coming in.

I'm more puzzled by Dillon Gabriel leaving Oklahoma than McCord leaving OSU. Buuuuuuuuut he was originally recruited by Kliff Kingsbury who is now the QB Coach at USC. And we know Lincoln Riley loves stealing Oklahoma quarterbacks.

Not holding my breath on this one.

I’m sure he will get more offers.

At his signing with OSU some said he was the best MLB in the country.

They're technically P4 teams, 2 conference wins between them this year. I wonder about the $ available

Outside of (maybe) his brother, Rourke is the best QB we've had in a couple of decades.

And he's only getting p5 offers from conference bottom dwellers like Wake, Indiana, and Vanderbilt. Wake, at least, has had a solid stretch over the last 5 years.

But that's pretty disappointing and says a lot about the talent disparity between us and the P5.

I agree but there's also an absurd amount of quality P5 QBs in the portal.

Nathan was hands-down better than Kurtis.

I think some of us on here realizes that Kurtis is not the same QB he was last year before the injury. Just doesn’t seem like the same guy. Now it may be just the play calling and a weak line, but I’m not buying that. If he hadn’t been injured last year and tried the portal then, I’m guessing he would have had better offers, but who knows.

I think a lot of problems we play calling. I think we established a lot of tendencies, especially on 2nd down calls. I think Kurtis will do better though with a full off-season.

As far as the best QB goes, we also had Tyler Tettleton who holds most of the records. True, his receiving corps was pretty insane compared to pretty much everyone that came before it. One website, and it wasn't an unknown one, it was maybe beacherreport, ranked the top 50 G5 players prior to 2012 and Tettleton was #1. Boo Jackson was pretty decent too. There have been some down years. A lot of the QBs in the 80s and 90s and early 2000s struggled, often with the rest of the tam. But,Kareen Wilson and Dontrelle Jackson did a pretty good job executing the Flexbone system. I think we had some good young skill players and a defense with several guys who played in the NFL and close to all in some other pro league in 2016 and couldn't find the right QB. That was probably the toughest recent year for the QB position here.

He also only has 1 year left, his knee obviously never got to 100% this season so there’s some uncertainty with that, and he missed multiple games with a concussion this season.

I'm sure Tyler Tettleton is not happy about this post.
