Come on fellas, news like this deserves it's own thread. Otherwise the casual reader like myself goes an entire week not hearing a thing about our new Quarterback...I can't be the only one not following that 50 page transfer thread.

Was Gunnar still a non-scholarship player in year 3, or had he been moved to scholarship? Did he have other offers out of High School? A Redshirt Junior next year, so 2 years remaining? And he came in 2021 post-Covid so no confusing bonus year?

Do we think he is end of discussion QB1 next fall or is it not quite that simple?

I don't think you need a scholarship if your dad is the coach. Don't you get tuition covered? He did have scholarship offers coming out of HS.

I'd say it is an open competition coming into Spring.

It looks like he was still a non-scholarship player in year 3, but likely did not need to take a scholarship due to his father being the coach, so take that with a grain of salt. Had offers from Toledo and Eastern Michigan out of high school. Looks like 2 years of eligibility remaining.

With Navarro and Harris (depending on health) both starting games at some point in the past two seasons and having eligibility left, I would suspect its going to be a pretty open competition going into the spring.

That's reassuring that he had MAC offers out of high school.

Maybe we end up working a tandem, Gundy in throwing situations Navarro in running situations.

Mentioned it in the other thread, but I’d probably temper my expectations a bit. I would be shocked if he was more than QB3. Knowing this team, that’s probably good enough to get a shot though.

0 star recruit out of HS. His last visit before committing to OSU was Texas A&M - Commerce…
Believe his one offer was from Eastern Michigan. Think someone else mentioned he had a PWO at Toledo? Walked on at OSU for obvious reasons.

Football IQ is probably off the charts. Should be a great addition to the QB room regardless. I just wouldn’t get ahead of myself thinking he’s defacto QB1 because he “played at Oklahoma State”.

An OK State fan joined the Ohio football group on Facebook and said most fans wanted Gunnar as their QB1 this past season so maybe he’s better than what we think.

I’m old enough to remember when AJ Ouellette was a walk on with no scholarship offers.

Gundy had two more FBS offers than Nathan Rourke did coming out of high school. It took Nathan Rourke a year at JUCO to get two MAC offers. Gundy had two coming out of HS (Toledo and EMU). He was in contention to start at OK State last year and his skills fit well with our offense. I expect it to be an open competition.

I'm old enough to remember when JJ Watt was a Hall of Famer.

Doesn't mean the other 10000 walk-ons across the country over the last two decades are also bound for greatness.

Though you goofballs try to make everything a personal slight, so just tell me where Tom Brady got drafted and we'll get this over quickly.

He was QB2 for Oklahoma State, so I'd be surprised if he'd transfer to Ohio and not at least have a strong chance of starting.

If he didn't think he could beat out Parker and CJ, who are we to disagree? I wish him luck in his further endeavors.

So he wasn't promised the starting job? Is it safe to assume this is why he's leaving? I'm confused.

This would be appropriate if he ends up going FCS or something. I wouldn't gloat until then. Him pulling out of Ohio does not prove he is a weak QB.

He's pissed he had to watch the first half of the basketball game the other day.

Could be that he got a new offer that appears to be better (to him).

The Portal-Go-Round will keep on spinning. Gotta get used to it, I guess.

I would assume there's a reason he only recieved like 4 FCS offers and our lone FBS offer.

Curious to see where he ends up.

Gonna get worse. This time last year this move wasn’t possible. But hey, the Ohio AG and future governor wants it to be no rules apply. Hell, he can transfer again after spring ball if he wanted to
