We ended the OOC schedule 2-2. Did we really expect a different outcome?

Let's see how we play these next 4 conference games, then we can assess our season.

I knew this lazy take was coming.

Looking entirely lost shouldnt make you feel warm and fuzzy just because I knew they’d lose.

Which Ohio team will show up for Homecoming?

I’ll be there….expecting and hoping for a non vanilla offense.

Defense should be better if healthy.

Stay tuned.

I don’t see how anyone has a rational take coming out of this game. We are four games in, and our offense is leaving a lot to be desired. I would have been totally shocked if our Offense had suddenly started clicking today, which it obviously didn’t. Our Defense looks MAC ready, but the superior talent of Kentucky’s Wide Receivers made our secondary look like they were standing still at times. Physically, Kentucky looked stronger on both sides of the ball as one would expect from an SEC school, and we simply got pushed around from start to finish. If anyone is thinking that we would be making the 12 game playoff at the end of the season, you are delusional and need help. In terms of competing in the MAC, we are going to have to get healthy, our offense is going to have to do more than just run the ball, and the Defense is going to need to step up and get some takeaways; otherwise, it is going to be a difficult season, until Ohio can reload again via recruiting and the transfer portal.

Kentucky went down to the wire with SEC powerhouse Georgia, with a 45-2 record in the last 3+ seasons plus two national championships, and you were maybe expecting a win today? By the way, check out what South Alabama has done in the last two weeks since their visit to Athens.

Who expected a 4-0 record after 4 games? This team was gutted from the portal and mostly replaced with FCS starters.

We could've been 3-1 if our red zone play-calling against Syracuse was a little better but this 2-2 record was expected. This team needs time to build chemistry which will take about 2-3 more games to be quite honest.

Receivers will have to adjust to Poulas' throws and placements. Starting in an SEC game was a tall task for the young man.

Really hope they utilize the 2 QB system just for this year and go with whoever has the hot hand.

It was also good to see Brune get a few carries. Running the ball will be critical until receivers and QB can get on same page and in rhythm. I still would like for us to use Mason Williams more in the short passing game.

Let's give this team a chance to regroup and rebound in MAC play.

With our talent set a 2 QB system would look like this. 1 QB for running the ball and 1 QB for throwing the ball. Those schemes usually tip the play to the defense.

Not sure why anyone was thinking this offense was going to be anything like it currently is? Ivan they be successful in the MAC? Sure, but it’s going to be built around solid defense, taking care of the ball and shortening games.

Shortening games, huh? Sounds like running the play clock down to 1-2 seconds before each snap. That went over well on this site the last couple of years.

Absolutely agree 100%. This is as lazy as it gets. 2-2 in this manner is the absolute minimum to be expected. There isn't much up for interpretation at this point.

Syracuse is not very good, and they worked us with ease. South Alabama had to go with a backup QB - and while we won, we showed almost no separation in the talent department (If Lopez plays, I'm guessing we lose by at least 2 TD's). I think we can call agree Morgan State was a grease fire, and we almost made them look like equals. Then, the embarassment that was today. Kentucky will likely not be bowl eligible, and they had not scored an offensive TD in 8+ quarters - and they hung a 40 burger on us.

Again, BG / Toledo / NIU - they all have access to the same talent pool as we do, so I'm not really interested in the lazy "Portal This / Portal That" excuses. Do better. I was there today, the defense essentially quit early into the 3rd quarter, and the offense has almost no ability to throw outside the numbers - no matter if it's Navarro or Poulos. I'm sure we will thump Akron for HC, but we need to fix things fast.

Just win Baby! Just win! I’d rather win 3-2 then lose 50-49

You are right. Many weren’t happy. Many weren’t happy when Grobe was grinding out wins with a 5’8” a who could t throw a football.

But I do not mean literally running the play clock down that far, but the more this team has to throw, the more it’s going to struggle.

Normally that's how it works but I think both guys can run. Just limit their passing to 10-12 passes each instead of 1 QB throwing 25-30 passes. And from there you can go with the hot hand.

The play calls at 1st and Goal from the 5 illustrates all the issues.

Could have run a couple smart plays, killed some clock and gone into the locker room down 10-3 at the half. instead we go down 17-0 and UK doesn’t look back. Horrific.

That’s 2 games where we hurt ourselves with horrific red zone play calling. I thought the Cuse game was quite winnable had we not gone brain dead with idiotic play calls inside the 20. Have my doubts the Kentucky game was winnable but again we shot ourselves in both feet with the debacle calls preventing us from going into the half down 10-7.with the momentum.

As I said in another thread it was apparently a wrist injury.

https://x.com/markcstory/status/1837526930452570528?s=19

Albin didn't mention it but I don't believe in the HIPPA world that makes this untrue. I doubt that he injured it after being pulled last week. To me it makes sense that he was trying to play with it and explains why he had less velocity and 3 of his 4 deep attempts were well short. Then if he wasn't 100% then play Poulas to get Navarro healthy and ready for conference play and avoid ruining Navarro's confidence playing less than 100% against a good defense.

Maybe that's wishful thinking as I hop Navarro comes back at some point looking better than last week but it is my working theory right now.

Then you will need to explain how the first quote constitutes a "lazy take"? Against superior teams, a sliver of an opportunity was missed at Syracuse but not against South Alabama. All other games have run to form, including Akron. 2-2 (now 3-2) was certainly a probable outcome.
