I had it in the "old days" there was a single player named at each division per position, ie 1 QB, 3 WRs, 2 or 3 running backs and now it appears that there may be a dozen or more players named at each position.

Am I correct about the "old days" and if so, when did it change to not just one top dog on the first team but numerous?

There are 7 divisions, roughly 106-108 teams in each division.

D-1 QB First Team: Darreon Fair, Cleveland Heights, 5-11, 175, sr.; Will Cooper, Thomas Worthington, 5-9, 180, sr.; Mitch Bolden, West Chester Lakota West, 6-1, 202, sr.; Bryce Schondelmyer, Springfield, 6-2, 195, sr.; Danny Stoddard, Medina, 6-2, 190, jr.

2nd-Team Quarterbacks Matthew Papas, Grove City, 6-0, 165, jr.; Harrison Brewster, Olentangy Berlin, 6-1, 195, jr.; Talon Fisher, Fairfield, 6-1, 215, jr.; Evan Ruzzo, Springboro, 5-10, 185, sr.

3rd-Team Quarterbacks Scotty Fox, Mentor, 6-2, 205, soph.; Casey Bullock, St. Edward, 6-1, 190, jr.; Zakk Tschirhart, Dublin Jerome, 5-11, 180, sr.; James Hayek, Upper Arlington

Honorable mention Quarterbacks Ryan Montgomery, Findlay, 6-3, 210, soph.; Ethan Grunkemeyer, Olentangy, 6-3, 190, sr.; RJ West II, Princeton, 6-3, 190, sr.

Only one first team punter and one first team kicker--why not 5 or 6 at those positions too?

Well, for one, if a player is District POY, they are guaranteed to be 1st team All-State, so in some cases, you may have several at positions like QB who were DPOY, which gives you more at that position.
