BIG +1

Frank changed the culture. The minority wanting to run him out of town don't seem to recognize the significance of the culture change he brought to Athens.

Deontai WILLiams be a Bobcat. That shouldn't be a surprise. That should be an expectation.

Thanks Dr Freud and your assistant in analyzing folks on here. You guys are somehow confusing an observation that we don't get many high 3 or 4 star guys who have other options with the P5. It doesn't happen often, and when it happens it's always has seemed to be because of academic issues. Sad that you think it had anything to do with low self esteem or a dislike of what Frank has done here.

What is sad is that you think that it not happening often in the past means it won't happen often in the future. Doesn't take a Dr to figure out the results for many years in this program were unacceptable.

A good chunk of "the people on here" would prefer that guys go to TSUN because they don't even recognize that we are competing for the same players. We are trying to compete in FBS football and we can't even get some of you buying into what is happening here...

Newsflash...
2/5 of our incoming DB's had offers from the SEC
3/5 had offers from the Big 10

Who says we can't compete?

If you need an excuse to believe that a young man would want to continue his higher education at OHIO UNIVERSITY, why are you even here?

News flash - the financial disparity in the value of a scholarship from a P5 conference and the MAC is increasing as we speak.

And yet here we are signing MULTIPLE players with P5 offers...

I never questioned your love of Ohio University. I questioned your intelligence in needing an excuse to explain a young man choosing to attend Ohio University.

To be fair, even Coach Solich said in the press conference that it was somewhat of a surprise that he signed with Ohio.

Why has nobody brought up the fact that this dude hits like Mike Mitchell? This kid is a monster. I want him on the field as a true freshman.

Absolutely. I mean, any time you flip a kid the day of signing day that has to be a little of a surprise and obviously we just beat out multiple SEC programs. Until that happens regularly, I think everyone will be somewhat surprised.

That really is the first thing I thought watching his highlight tape.

Colocat is absolutely correct here. No matter what anyone else says or opines, the bottom line, as was pointed out is Georgia moved on from this guy as schools like that can. That is really good news for OHIO and I am glad we got the guy. However, like someone else pointed out, I just hope this isn't another K Ashley or Trae Williams that never sees the field for us. Yes we are in the same division in football as the big boys BUT for anyone to really think we are competing against the Georgia's or Ohio State's or Oregon's of the world for a recruit is rather funny. When is the last time we out recruited Ohio State for a player? Sheeeeesh...

That may have happened, and certainly that is what Georgia fans think, yet there is no smoking gun. When he flipped, Georgia replaced him on signing day with another safety, Kirby Choates, a no-star to 3-star recruit with no other offers, so Georgia clearly wanted another Safety.

If you read the press release from Trinity Christian carefully, it clearly states that the LOI never came from Georgia. It appears that they had pulled their offer, right? To say that we "beat out " all these P5 conference teams because there was an earlier offer seems to be an over reach to me.
Anyway, the offers clearly show this guy's potential, and he is signed here and we all want him to succeed here. Let's hope he does get the chance.

Don't know about the offers, but Scout has Choates as a 3 star and #60 safety.

If Deontai does arrive in Athens, I kinda feel sorry for the WR's in the MAC East. It could be a long four years for them. If I were Roger Lewis, I'd consider transferring for my mental and physical health. ITS NOT WORTH IT!

OK, thanks. I had only bothered looking him up at ESPN and Rivals. ESPN has him as no-stars, while Rivals has him at 2 stars, 5.3 (mid 2-star), and neither show any other offers. I just now looked at Scout.com where he is 3-stars, and at 247Sports, where he is now ironically rated 87 (high 3-star), coincidentally the identical rating that 247Sports gave to D.Williams. Of course, 247Sports is the service that cut the rating of Howell after he committed to Ohio (from 88 to 72), and increased the rating of T. Williams when he flipped from Ohio to Northwestern, so I would urge you to take their ratings with a large grain of salt.

247Sports also shows that Choates did also have other offers from Ball State, Coastal Carolina, Jacksonville, and Georgia Southern. To me, it seems doubtful that Georgia wanted Choates ahead of D. Williams. If they wanted Choates more, they would have announced the commitment from Choates early, and not on signing day after it was announced that Williams had switched to Ohio.

Do you have a link for that? I searched, but couldn't find it. That would certainly support the idea that Georgia was the reason for the change, though even then, if he had told them he was flipping, they wouldn't have sent the letter.

Edit - nvm, found the link on the BA homepage:

Jacksonville.com wrote:
Williams, who committed to Florida initially before flipping to Georgia, surprised everyone by signing with Ohio University. Williams did not want to talk about the decision.

Dorminey said that Georgia did not send a letter-of-intent to Williams on Wednesday. Qualifying could be an issue, but Dorminey said Ohio vowed to stick with Williams, a four-star prospect, throughout the process.

Like clockwork, the class of 71 chimes in to dismiss any ray of light from the current coaching staff.

We have a lost generation of fans, and we wonder why we are where we are.......

Not to thread jack, but the Class of '71 was spoiled with a MAC Championship in their 2nd year on campus in 1968 at 10-1, then slowly went backward 5-4-1 and 4-5.

Am I alone among BA posters in thinking it unseemly to speculate on a recruit's academic standing or to speculate as to whether he might enroll? Doing so strikes me as unwarranted ill-treatment of the student - and lowering the generally high BA discussion bar.

In the event Deontai sees this thread, I offer him my apology.

We all know what brought you from Pennsylvania to Athens over 30 years ago. You thought you were attending o$u and was going to watch Art Schlichter play quarterback for the buckeyes.

I hope this young man realizes that just because he is a 4 star recruit, that does not mean he will be handed anything. He will have to beat out some fine young men that started as walk-ons but have now earned their stripes.

Deontai, you have several walk-ons standing between you and the field. That is no easy task. Good luck.

That was Fred. Not me. True story. The guy thought he was going to osu until his parents dropped him off. He is all the one that walked into the hocking after the first night uptown. He didn't last.

Well there you have it, Safety is another benefit of OHIO vs O$U; stumbling into the Hocking is significantly safer than slipping into the Olentangy--which may have literally meant the lad didn't last..
