This is where I went to High School. Ben was just diagnosed with Mono and will probably miss a lot of this season.

I've actually had multiple people say something to the effect of "I hear the kid from TW is heading to Ohio." Not sure if they just don't understand he simply has an offer, or if Ben feels confident he intends to attend Ohio, or some combination thereof. I think Ohio is his only legit offer currently. But regardless I hope he gets back on the court quickly. He seems like a Saul type player, athletic for his size and high motor.

I caught a game Saturday at my alma mater and watched Wight. He goes hard and has skills, but his team is pretty awful and sloppy which hurts his effectiveness. He has a good touch and overall positioning, similar to Jason Carter. But his aggressiveness is sometimes too much and a bit sloppy and I could totally see it leading to a constant foul trouble problem in college. Didn't get to display his outside shot much.

He could definitely up his stock and get Big Ten offers, but his team may prevent that from happening, which could be good for us.

Can you honestly say if you think he has All-MAC potential? Not necessarily freshman year...

No, I would not make that claim based on what I saw. But it is possible. I liked his motor...he definitely strikes me as a hard worker, which ups his potential.

So we are the only offer? I sure hope this kid is not another project and he can put it all together his senior year.

This is the year that I start truly judging Saul on his recruiting. He has brought in some very solid guys but we've had so much movement and injuries that it's tough to gauge. I truly believe we will see what he has up his sleeve. I fully have the expectation of Saul that 5 of BVP, Cowart, Preston, James, Murrell, Springs and McMurray will contribute to the core of Dartis, Kirk, Gollon, DT, Carter and Block. We have six experienced players who will lead us. I really think that the "waiting time" is over. I want to see real contributions from these recruits to allow a guy like Doug to play 20 minutes a game and make a huge impact in those 20 minutes instead of forcing him to play 30 minutes a game and lose steam at the end. Kirk looked drained at season's end. The injuries could easily be looked at from the perspective of "we have hammered Dartis for 3 years with playing time" while not giving him a trustworthy backup.

I don't know enough about Wight to know if he'll be a good fit or not but from what we've seen this offseason it looks like the recruiting has stepped up a bit.

McDay - looks like he'll be a solid addition, comes from a great program and played well on a big stage.

Roderick - leading scorer in Central Ohio last year before an injury. Latest word is that Wisconsin and Xavier are re-engaging. Hopefully the injury scares them off enough because I think he'd be a really good get.

Bridges - offer list growing, bigger programs in the mix (PSU, Temple, WVU, Dayton)

Early ('20) - Marshall, Duquesne, and WVU

Whitehead - going toe to toe with Buffalo on him. Would be nice to score another player over them like McDay

Moreno - would probably be the gem of the class if we could get him, rated a 4 star by ESPN

Now...landing them is the next thing. We've seen this staff recruit highly touted prospects (Bane, Haliburton, etc) but haven't landed one yet.

So is that true, we were his only offer? I googled his name, found 4 recruiting sites and while I'm not experienced looking info like this up, didn't see offers listed?

Had lunch with a D2 college coach a few weeks ago and he was telling me that one of our new Freshman picked OHIO over his D2 school. Those were his top 2 choices and it was back-n-forth until the very end when he picked us. If these two stories are accurate, we pick a guy up over nobody and a D2 school? Hopefully I don't have all the information and am sure I don't but, because if so...Geesh.

Why would anyone with any real talent sign with a school not knowing who the coach will be when he gets here?

Good question. Noticed that Bobcat commit Lunden McDay didn't sign last week.

Atrocious...isn't it? I'll say this, at least Saul is consistent with his recruiting philosophy. He continues to beat out Wisconsin-Stevins Point and Belmont Abbey on the recruiting trail.

By the "how many offers a recruit has" logic, then this guy with only one other offer from anyone was a terrible recruit:

I'm glad some of you guys are the experts on talent evaluation here though. At least we have that going for us around here. And before you jump on me for anything, I agree in principle that the level of talent/athleticism is probably lacking a little in some positions based on what I saw in Jamaica. I'm just annoyed with a few guys who think they actually know something about recruiting players spending time bashing 17-18 year old kids who haven't even stepped on the floor as a player at Ohio right after they sign the NLI. It's a really bad look, but at least it's your look you can be proud of.

I wonder how long you same guys will give the next coaching staff, and their players before you bash on them? Three months into the season? Less than that? Or maybe, their first MAC Tournament loss? Or after one season? Heck, maybe it'll last as long as 18 months?

Gotta admit I do have to chuckle at the hashtag warfare back and forth.
Anyway- I would hope that with a new coach that all fans would give it a chance. If not then its people bitching to bitch.

The issue here is that what we know and what we have seen so far, its not trending very well at all. You saw it and noted and its not good. This is not the fault of the players- they got recruited by Saul and staff and some at this point just aren't up the caliber of the program/competition.

As for the kids and the "bashing" that's the world we are in... its a tough world and when you are in the spotlight- no matter how small it may be in Athens, you have to deal with it. Heck in this day and age of Twitter and social media, most of these kids are getting hammered online from their High School competitors already. Growing some thick skin is not a bad thing. That said I honestly think we on here probably worry more about how they take the critics than they do. They know its a bunch of old (even 30 is old to a college student and I guarantee you most of us on here are a lot older than 30) fat guys on here whining, so it is what it is.

Worthington participated in the Play by Play Classic yesterday at Pickerington Central. Worthington lost to Northland but noticed in today's Dispatch that Wight was not in the box score. Either he didn't play or did play and was held scoreless.

Ben reffed my son's basketball game today. His left foot was in a boot. I spoke briefly with him and all he said was he should be fine.

Went to the TWHS game on Friday. Ben & his other injured teammate started on senior night, then immediately were taken out and did not play. TWHS lost to Kilbourne after having thumped them earlier in the year. They are I believe 3-4 since Ben has been out after going 10-3 to start the year.

Ben again reffed my son's basketball game yesterday, no longer wearing the boot...and he said he WILL be back for the playoffs.
