Joe was traded to the Rays on March 21st for former 1st round pick SS Greg Jones. The move was motivated by roster constraints as Jones needed to be on the 40 man while Rock did not.

From an organizational standpoint and their reputations of developing pitching, this is a Godsend for Joe. But from a depth perspective, it makes making the big league club a bit tougher given the Rockies staff is dreadfully bad.

Joe broke camp with AAA and the Durham Bulls. He went 4 innings, 0 BB, 6 K and 2 runs (2 solo HR).

That's a freaking jackpot for Rock. Get away from Colorado and to the best developmental organization? Could not ask for a better situation.

Joe got rocked in his 2nd start. 7 runs on 8 hits 2 walks and struck out 4 in 3 2/3 innings.

Joe has been so so since his rough 2nd start to the season, but he appears to have maybe lost his spot in the rotation as he has not started since 4/21. He had a long relief appearance since, his first non-start appearance since rookie ball in 2021.

He sits at an ERA of 6.00, 4 BB and 24 K in 21 innings. If you take out the ugly start it would be 17.1 innings, 2 BB, 20 K and a 3.63 ERA.

Good trend line.

GREAT month of May for Joe. 4 starts, 21 IP, 2 BB, 19 K, 3 ER.

Meanwhile the Rays #5 starter Tyler Alexander had a dreadful May. His turn in the rotation on Thursday is currently listed as TBD. Joe is scheduled to pitch tomorrow. Fingers crossed Joe gets scratched and gets a call-up!

Well the callup did not happen and Joe went 5 innings, 1 run, 4 BB, 4 K. Really the first time he struggled with command all year but he worked around it.

Meanwhile the Rays decided to go with a bullpen day, but Alexander threw the most and got lit up pretty good again (4 runs in 4+ innings). Joe's numbers are way better than any other regular starter at Durham. I still feel like they have to at least be considering a call up very soon.

Joe has struggled in 3 straight starts (15 ER in 14 innings). He now has a 4.58 ERA on the season. He still remains the best available SP for the Rays, in my opinion, should they find themselves needing one.

They just traded for about 50 pitching prospects and their IL should be thinking soon, so I don’t see the call coming.

Joe threw a gem this week - 7 innings with 7 strikeouts and just 1 walk and a solo HR allowed (to intermittent big leaguer Mike Brosseau). Unfortunately the game was blown in the 9th by one of their newly acquired pitchers.

Added to Rays' 40-man roster.

I kinda hoped they left him exposed to see if a team nabbed him in the rule 5 draft, which would have cemented him as a big leaguer if the drafting team wants to keep him. But this is a good development too, where calling him up is now a quick and easy process. The lack of being on the 40 man is likely what prevented the callup late last season more than anything else as the Rays likely didn't have anyone they wanted to clear off.
