There are 64 eligible teams right now. There are 30 ineligible. There are 37 teams still alive. It would take an absurd set of circumstances for Ohio to not get a bowl so it isn't much concern but teamranking's sum is up to 81.5 now.

BYU 99.00%
Memphis 98.40%
Buffalo 94.00%
App State 94.00%
Middle Tenn 91.60%
Wisconsin 88.30%
UAB 88.30%
Michigan St 85.30%
Oklahoma 76.60%
S Mississippi 76.50%
Fla Atlantic 75.20%
Arkansas 73.10%
Texas Tech 71.40%
LA Lafayette 70.80%
Ball State 66.50%
UNLV 64.40%
GA Southern 60.00%
Central Mich 45.30%
Miami (FL) 45.00%
Missouri 40.70%
Utah State 40.00%
Kent State 37.40%
Army 36.20%
Rice 29.90%
Bowling Grn 28.00%
Miami (OH) 22.50%
Iowa State 15.30%
Arizona 15.20%
TX El Paso 6.50%
W Virginia 6.30%
Georgia State 6.20%
LA Monroe 4.90%
Florida Intl 1.90%
Rutgers 1.50%
Auburn 1.30%
N Mex State 1.10%
Vanderbilt 0.30%

The winner of FAU and MTSU is guaranteed to be bowl eligible.

I know this is just a prediction but I would rather play a different opponent if we did go to a bowl game this year.

If Buffalo wins the MAC I could see them in the Arizona Bowl. Coastal Carolina in Boca Raton would be nice for Ohio.

If Buffalo wins the MAC they may get the BIG10/MAC Bowl in Detroit. Thats why I hope we win. Easier travel to Detroit rather than Tucson.

One side note on that Arizona Bowl in Tucson is it's sponsored by Barstool. Which would be huge in publicity for whoever gets to play in it. Those guys push the hell out of their product on every social media channel, every podcast, with every one of their accounts. That combined with their betting angles this would be a pretty widely watched game with a lot of interest - far more than playing in the Bahamas on Tuesday at noon.

https://thearizonabowl.com /

Only catch with that, is that I believe the Arizona Bowl is the only bowl not televised on Linear Television, so I'm not sure how many eyeballs would actually be on it.

Great point made. They broadcast through their own media channel, so most likely would have to buy a subscription to watch this game. Not sure if they do any sort of trial period but being familiar with the brand and only having rights to a very small number of events, I seriously doubt they do.

Interestingly Barstool just shared some numbers on how their college basketball tournament has performed compared to other channels. Seems to have brought a decent amount of viewers if true.

The bowl game is not put behind any paywall as it "airs" on their social media apps, websites, etc. If you can't figure out a way to get it onto your television screen, well, then that would be on you, lol.

I mentioned it before the MAC has 4 bowls that it has to fill with individual contracts (Detroit, Boise, Tucson, Bahamas). It also has 6 guaranteed slot overall including placement in an ESPN bowl. This is how the 2020-2025 bowl cycle is structured. There is more security here than bowl slots vs. bowl eligible.

After Buffalo as a probable 4th bowl eligible team the chances are limited for the others.

Buffalo 5-5 (Akron, Kent St)
Ball St 5-5 (Ohio, @Miami)
BGSU 5-5 (@Toledo, @Ohio)
Miami 4-6 (@NIU, Ball St)
Kent 4-6 (EMU, @Buffalo)
CMU 4-6 (WMU, @EMU)

If BG and Ball State both win out they hit 7 wins tying the Bobcats at 7-5. That would give the MAC six teams with 7 wins for the six contracted slots. Its not possible Miami (they'd be eliminated) and Kent/CMU to win 7 and Ohio isn't getting bumped out of a contracted slot by a 6-6 team.

Most Memorable Bobcat Events Attended
2010 97-83 win over Georgetown in NCAA 1st round
2012 45-13 victory over ULM in the Independence Bowl
2015 34-3 drubbing of Miami @ Peden front of 25,086

Miami kept their hopes alive. The winner of Miami and Ball State will be eligible and the loser won't be.

Kent and CMU are out. Buffalo has 2 more cracks at bowl eligibility against Akron and Kent. Winner of Miami/Ball St will be the 5th bowl eligible team.

Should be 6 eligible from the MAC so long as Buffalo takes care of business. This opens the door for Ohio to take a bowl down south if it doesn't win the MAC. If it does that projected matchup against Michigan State in the Quick Lane Bowl will be jumped on.

This makes a lot of sense. We have not played there. It's an even matchup. COVID cancelled a game a couple of years ago. It should be an even matchup.

I know some will plan a trip to Florida to watch the Bobcats also play the Gators in BBall.

Team rankings sum is down a little to 80.4 teams. Every year that I have done this it has stayed very constant over the season but then jumped up by one or two the final weekend.

There are already 74 eligible teams. 39, counting JMU, are already ineligible. The winner of Ball State vs. Miami is eligible and the loser ineligible. Most of these teams are underdogs so if they pull a bunch of upsets it could shoot well past 82.

Buffalo 94.80%
UAB 86.30%
LA Lafayette 66.70%
S Mississippi 64.90%
Miami (OH) 62.90%
Army 40.20%
Miami (FL) 38.60%
Missouri 37.80%
Ball State 37.10%
GA Southern 33.50%
Fla Atlantic 31.60%
Rice 16.80%
Michigan St 9.50%
TX El Paso 6.50%
Vanderbilt 3.60%
Auburn 3.10%
N Mex State 0.70%
GA Tech 0.20%

So there wasn't the more than expected 5-6 teams pulling mild upsets this year. Right now there are 79/82 eligible teams. Buffalo will probably beat Akron and make it 80. Then there is the matter of New Mexico State at 5-6 with a midseason postponed game against San Jose State. As of now it has not been rescheduled. There is also the matter of James Madison's appeal which I don't know if it has been resolved.

NMSU is playing Valpo this weekend. They've asked for a waiver if they go 6-6 with two wins vs 1AA teams. I haven't seen anything about Army filing a waiver, but they're only 5-6 with two wins vs 1AA teams so they really don't have much of a chance to get in.

NMS is in regardless of this next game-they got their waiver. So Rice and UNLV are next 2.

Any warm place is good.
Best dates somewhere between Dec 14 and 21st.
Larger city location for good hotels and dining (not Shreveport)

ESPN will make the decision.

I realize that all the MAC teams share the payouts, after expenses. But assuming that payouts reflect the prestige of the bowls, here's how the MAC's six bowl games this season would rank:

Quick Lane Bowl: $2,000,000
Lending Tree Bowl: $1,500,000
Potato Bowl: $800,000
Arizona Bowl: $350,000
Camellia Bowl: $300,000
Bahamas Bowl: $225,000

The Cure Bowl, which is an alternate for the MAC, is in the middle of that group at $573,125.

As one of the two teams in the MACCG, Ohio should probably be in either the Quick Lane, Lending Tree or Potato bowl. I know it doesn't always happen that way. Last year's MAC champ (NIU) was in the Cure Bowl. But they were 9-4 and played 10-2 Coastal Carolina, so it was an attractive match-up for ESPN. This year, EMU is likely for Quick Lane to help fill seats. Wherever we play, I hope it's against a 9- or 10-win team so it looks attractive to the casual viewer and might fill some seats with locals.
