In terms of size, Kent State looked like a middle school team playing an NFL team, yet they hung with Georgia all day long. I would not be surprised if they put up 70 points on us.

One of the many reasons Albin cannot stay. The direction of the program is in free fall. Every MAC team is hanging with P5’s… OU just got absolutely carved up by a 6-5 FCS team.

They were 3-0 this year averaging over 50ppg. It was a good FCS team and OU didn't lose.

A coaches responsibility is put players in positions where they can win games. I don’t think number 30 was put in a position to help win the game. Fortunately we did win even though the coaches certainly didn’t help out in this case.

I’m so happy that MONMOUTH (52-49) and ALBANY (48-45) is now our measuring stick. Tremendous.

A lot of doom and gloom in this thread. There’s not a poster out there that thought Ohio would have a better record than what they have right now; no one predicted a 3-1 or 4-0 record, no one.

Marshall and Appalachian State, two media darlings just a short 2 weeks go after having beaten Notre Dame and Texas A&M, have just lost 3 out of 4 games; APSU just lost to James Madison at home and Marshall’s lost 2 games in a row.

The point is, the way this season’s playing out so far in college football, who knows who’s going to win one week from the next. Take the win and move on to Kent State and let’s see what happens.

I'm choosing to subscribe to this philosophy for now. We almost lost that game yesterday due to mental and execution errors on defense. The Fordham quarterback is very good (could start for a G5 team of his choosing, and maybe a P5 or two). On most of their touchdowns yesterday, all he had to be was relatively accurate because receivers were running free due to defensive errors. That can be potentially corrected. For the rest of the season's sake, those need to be corrected very quickly.

This is generally my philosophy, too. However, in this case I'm now coming around to the point of view that Monroe has been emailing me about and which Casper71 has been preaching on here for about a decade, we just don't seem to have the talent top to bottom of the elite MAC teams. When Frank was coach he was able to coach up players and assign players to the position that best made use of their talents, plus he made generally good in-game adjustments. Little of that seems to be happening now. While I hope we can beat Kent and that we make the appropriate adjustment to our pass defense, I'm not very optimistic that that will happen. Monroe said that his gut said that we'd go 2-10. My gut is now telling me maybe 3 or 4 four wins, at most. One must worry when our two guts are in that close agreement. While it doesn't signal the end of the world, it might mean that the end of the Albin Era is near.

P.S. I think it's time to bring Monroe back from exile. I know he can be irritating and overwhelming obnoxious at times, but he's a true, blue Bobcat and I think we can all put up with him in the spirit of free speech and open dialogue.

Curious as to how you would have played defense.

I'm not under contract to coach Ohio's defense. I'm not at practice every day. I have no experience coaching football at any level. However, I would start with not putting #30 on #1.

Not sure who you put on #1, because Kokosioulis is an absolute stud, a super senior and one of the top players in the nation.

I'm not sure either. But I know who not to put on him - a linebacker turned safety.

Let's not make the kid out to be Randy Moss. He's a 5'9" dynamo who is indeed a stud and one of the best in the FCS and certainly the Patriot League. Would have been fun to see him in the MAC. Unfortunately he didn't sniff the field his freshman year at NIU and transferred down. His QB has the same strong credentials. So the game plan created by the coaches and inserted in practice all week had to center on not letting those two beat us. Make the rest of team beat us - if that was not the approach - then....

320 yards receiving and 4 TiDs later (on mostly wide open throws) it is obvious the plan and execution failed. Kudos to Fordham for their approach "We're playing Ram ball. Wagner, Monmouth, Ohio, doesn't matter. Your coaches can't create a plan to beat us and your players can't stop our big two - so go ahead and try. You hear us Georgetown? Your next Hoyas!!"

The concern for Ohio is not that a stud FCS WR took us to the woodshed. It's that we are giving up 376 yards a game passing (no fewer that 300 a game) and 161 yards rushing (no fewer than 114 a game) -- for a 537 average.

We knew that Fordham is a weak defensive football team, as we are too.
Having said this the game was similar to game 1.
I will give a shout out to special teams, much improved.
Now if only the D can stop receivers from getting behind them we will improve.

I hate to correct you, but I will. The young man played in 11 games as a freshman. And guess what, those two did not beat us! He was also a RB at NIU and in High School.

No - you are correct. When you are right you are right. He did return 9 kicks as a freshman at NIU - though he did not record a catch or carry. Maybe it's a different interpretations of "sniff. And yes we won on Saturday. Guess our game plan was to bend but not break. "We can give up 52 boys but not a point more!" I'm being facetious... obviously no one would ever argue that giving up 52 points was the result of a successful defensive plan or execution.

Bottomline - we are 2-2 which is where most had us pegged and would be happy with. Ugly, but 2-2. Season's success will be defined by MAC play. But giving up 537 yards a game is not a recipe for success.

Never saw a game quite this wild -- with all the offensive records set by both teams. Glad we won. Also, happy to see the military honored on the field. All and all a rewarding trip back to Athens. Had to come to this game, since I can't make the Homecoming game. A win is a win is a win!

they almost teamed up to beat Ohio and some felt they were among the country’s elite - so an update. DeMorat went undrafted and signed as a free agent with Washington. Kokosioulis went undrafted and has not signed as a free agent but received a few local invites. Goes to show how hard it is to make the NFL especially from lower divisions.
