What I have heard from people close to the program is that Kurtis is going to be getting 500k in NIL.

I’d have to see that contract. No offense to your sources.

You can get around the NIL thing. For example, if you are a Kentucky (or Dayton) basketball player, they can wait to pay you until you appear at a BBQ in a Bahamas Tournament. For Rourke, they will have him make some Instagram posts while he is in Canada and then pay him while he's there. The players are here on student VISAs not work VISAs. I aslo think Kurtis may be marrying a US girl which would make him a US citizen and allowed to be paid.

Ted, there is NO automatic citizenship when a Canadian marries a U.S. citizen. In fact it’s not even automatic permanent residency with getting married.

I heard just the ending of a radio conversation yesterday about how international college athletes may not be eligible for NIL $. It was centered on Purdue big man Zach Edey and how Purdue scheduled a game this season in Canada to help accommodate him when it came to endorsement money. Did not get all of the details but it made me wonder if Rourke is able to get NIL $ under these circumstances.

Of all things the NCAA didn't do, THAT is where they decided to draw the line? Prevent Canadians from benefitting from their NIL? LOL Okayyyyyy

Oh no it’s called federal labor and immigration laws. Has zero to do with the NCAA

Had no idea, but 5 mins of going down rabbit holes and I can see why they haven’t made any changes yet.

Just opens up a massive can of warms having to legally call these kids employees. Still operating under a guise of student-athletes not athletes-who-occasionally-attend-classes-but-will-probably-transfer-in-9-months-anyway students .

“Current NCAA NIL policy allows student-athletes to receive compensation from marketing themselves. International students, however, cannot enter into NIL deals because NIL deals are considered off-campus employment. In the United States, international students can only work on campus under their student visa status.“
