Saw that New Mexico State just cancelled their entire remaining basketball schedule due to hazing allegations among the team. Man, seems like they fell a ton from their glory years in early 2010's.

Older fans remember NMSU as the Preseason NIT finals matchup.

Just criminal how that team did not play in the NCAA Tournament. The Boals injury late in the season was crushing. I also still think how great Curtis Simmons should have been. That team was loaded. And since I'm on this topic of that era...the team the year before got screwed with a #12 seed. I still believe we beat any other 5 seed that year that wasn't coached by Bobby Knight. The General said Trent isn't going to beat us and let Boals shoot foul-line jumpers and see if Geno could score. It wasn't Boals or Geno's night...they combined to go 4-19 from the field. Estis kept us in it with six threes until Indiana pulled away late. Those were two incredible years of Ohio basketball. Good memories.

How do you figure? It beat UCONN in the tourney last year and and the only seasons it didn’t make the tourney in the 2010’s were 11 and 16.

Sounds like it just hired the wrong coach to take over for Jans and this is the unfortunate result. Seems more like a blip if NMSU reboots with a new coaching staff.

Chad Estis lit them up though!!!

What I meant by "fell a ton" - they've burned through a crazy number of head coaches since Jans left. Seems like locker room / culture was down as well - read deeper into the hazing allegations and it doesn't bode well for them. 3 of their players declared for portal and I think there might be a lot more of their teammates that follow.

They've burned through zero to date since Jans left.

Jans should have gotten the job over Boals. There, I said it. I said it during the hiring process as well.

Excuse me, was thinking of another team. I disagree with Jans over Boals - I'd rather not have someone who celebrates winning a game in the CIT by going to a bar / getting plastered / being inappropriate towards women

Hopefully they get away from that Chipola Coaching Tree...and for goodness sake stay away from Donnie Tyndall.

Well, I'm damned....I thought you wanted Pitino. My memory failing me I guess.

I don't think you can torpedo a program in less than a year quite like Greg Heiar just did. To recap:

- There was a brawl at a football game involving his players
- One of his players killed a student from another school. Self defense or not, he was lured out past curfew
- Multiple incidents in which 3 players hazed a younger teammate
- Program forced to shut down its season
- 2-16 in league play

Andddd he gone - predictable. Going to be interested to see if more NMSU players decide to transfer.

If the player was involved in the hazing ,there may not be much interest in him.

Here is the amazing thing about Heiar. He was an assistant under these head coaches:

Larry Eustachy
Gregg Marshall
Will Wade

I mean these three guys alone as mentors seemingly raise money red flags...no? All Heiar needed to do was work for Dave Bliss and hit the grand slam. Both the athletic director and president of NMSU should be fired as well. Disgraceful.
