Ohio scored points in seven different events today, finishing sixth at the All-Ohio Championships in Oxford. The Bobcats finished in the top half of the field and were narrowly edged by teams from Ohio State and Dayton.

The Bobcats earned their most points, eight each, in the 400 meters and heptathlon. Danielle Winningham finished third in the 400 with a time of 56.91 and Kiley Mathews finished seventh with a season-best time of 57.52.

Chanda Cuckler earned Ohio five points in the heptathlon, placing ninth or higher in all seven events. The freshman's best performance was a third-place finish in the high jump. Brittany Tyree was second in the 800m portion to finish sixth in the heptathlon.

Hope McCarty and Courtney Weiss each earned six points on their own for the Green and White in their respective events. McCarty was third in the 800m with a PR time 2:11.03 and Weiss ran a season-best 1:02.98 in the 400 hurdles.

Ashley Waddington picked up five points for the Bobcats in the 3000m steeplechase. The junior finished fourth with a time of 10:52.68. Alexis Geiger picked up a couple points in the long jump with a leap of 5.41 meters and Janiece Rose earned Ohio a top-10 finish in the shot.

In the relay events, Ohio finished fifth in the 4x4 (Mathews, McCarty, Tyree and Willingham) and eighth in the 4x1 (Kaylah Howard, Geiger, Mathews and Winningham). Howard and Geiger also ran season-best times in the 100 meters for the `Cats.

The Bobcats got 10 points in the 5k as Emily Pifer finished third (17:23.28) for six points and Morgan Reichert finished fifth (17:38.60) for four points.

Hope McCarty earned more points for Ohio with a seventh-place finish in the javelin. Alexa Macri also finished in the top-10 with a PR throw of 32.18 meters and Olivia Vitou placed 12th.

The Green and White also had some strong showings in the hammer throw with Donyelle Brown pacing the way. The freshman’s throw of 48.50 meters was a PR and season-best for the Bobcats. Macri also attained her second PR of the day with a toss of 43.26 meters

The Bobcats have just two more meets to prepare for the MAC Championship.  This week they will travel to Hillsdale, MI for the Gina Relays, and next week they come home for the Annual Ohio Open on Friday, May 4 at 2:00pm.  The MAC Championships will be held at Central Michigan on May 10 thru 12.

In other news, the University will be receiving some infrastructure money from the state of Ohio.  A portion of this money has been marked to update the outdoor track facility.  Also, the hope of having an indoor track in the proposed Multipurpose Center is still alive.  There have been discussions within the Student Fee Committee to possibly raise student fees slightly to pay for the track to be put in.  Nothing is final yet for anything, but any hope is better than no hope at all.
