Russ Eisenstein posted announcement in the Ohio Bobcats X account and his personalaccount that he is "stepping away" from his role as voice of the Bobcats, presumably immediately. Says he has a lot he wants to accomplish, but gave no hint on future plans. Timing is interesting, less that 6 weeks prior to start of the season, hope he gave the athletic department some heads-up.

Honestly surprised it didn’t happen five years ago. Not sure how Russ did it all these years on the salary the university pays for this position. Sure sounds like he doesn’t have anything lined up, but who knows. Wish Russ well….he was solid at his craft.

As for replacement….I’ll throw out Marty Bannister or Jake Hrmoda. But I’m guessing Jake is making similar or more at Ole Miss than what this job pays at Ohio.

Either of those gentlemen would be exceptional replacements, but I think you're right about Jake. Would be a tough sell to get him back hOUme.

Sad news. Will be hard to get used to a new voice after so many years. Hard to imagine we will find someone anywhere near as good.

Hope he has great success elsewhere.

Thanks for everything Russ. I hope he has something in the industry lineup up, would hate to see him leave the broadcast world.

What ever happened to Tony Castricone?

He's been the Voice of the Washington Huskies for several years now.

Well that sucks. But, Russ has done such a fantastic job for Ohio. Always entertaining, professional and able to bring the game to life over the interwebs.
We will miss you Russ... 😢 I hope you find what you are looking for whatever or wherever it may be!

Let’s make a play for him. What can Washington off we can’t? 😎

If Russ is leaving does that mean a new sidekick?

As in, no more of what's-his-face from Parkersburg?

Russ will always be the voice of the Bobcats, for me. Best wishes on future endeavors!

Curious question, are there any broadcasters in the athletics HOF here?

Rob has been great too! Would be a real blow if both are leaving now.

Come on, Rob has been a devoted Bobcat for 20 years now and does a fantastic job. He deserves better than "whats-his-face."

I don't ever see this as being a full-time job again. I think they will 1099 it. I would think Marty B would be given a good look for basketball. And maybe football too if his schedule allows.

One aspect of his talents is his knowledge of the MAC and it's history. That can't be replaced.

Definitely been moving in that direction, at least I see ICA looking to push all cost onto Learfield. One issue, if they did contract this out to someone who is not moving to Athens, the coaches shows would be radically different if they would exist at all.

Russ was a true professional and did a great job in Athens. We could only be so lucky to find a replacement even close to his talents.

+1 on both of these posts. Russ & Rob as a duo were better than several pairings at higher profile schools in Ohio. Rob is much more than a "what's his face". I hope he stays in the booth with whomever the next person is.
