I happened to see this article (https://hoodline.com/2024/05/san-francisco-jury-convicts-... /) stating Armon Bassett assaulted and robbed a man in San Francisco. Previously, the last we had heard from him was getting arrested for throwing bleach on his girlfriend back in his hometown of Terre Haute, IN. Sad to see him ending up in these troubles.

Rather than make the post solely about Armon, it has been awhile since we did a where are they now thread. Would be interested to hear of any updates on our former players over the last couple decades, hopefully more happy than the one I led with.

Obviously we all know Jason Preston is flourishing in the G League (though currently injured) and BVP is playing in Sweden. I believe DJ Cooper (Europe), Maurice Ndour (Italy), Leon Williams (Korea) & Jerome Tillman (Japan) are all still playing. I am sure I am missing others still playing. Walter Offutt is coaching at Illinois State, Tommy Freeman at Maine & Nick Kellogg at OSU. Steve Esterkamp was such a legend as a player in Germany, he never left and is now a head coach in the league he played 12 years in.

But also curious about non basketball careers, family, etc.

I believe Tillman hung it up and is selling real estate.

Ricardo Johnson is the varsity head coach at Holy Cross in Kentucky, where Tony Campbell went to HS.

Stevie Taylor is on the Iowa State staff. EDIT as of early December he is no longer there. Wonder what happened.

Bubba Walther is coaching his kid's rec league team in Cincinnati. I've seen him on the staff at Moeller and Lakota West in the past decade but not sure if he's on a high school staff now.

Justin Orr is a high school assistant somewhere in Illinois.

Walt was coaching at Illinois State as of two years ago, it it looks like he’s transitioned to a sales career according to his LinkedIn.

This is correct. He had a heartfelt retirement last year after, what 14 years as a pro? Long career for Big Till.

Assistant coach has to be one of the most thankless jobs on the planet. Tons of time, hours and responsibilities. Lots of travel away from home. Horrible pay and no recognition. Can't blame anyone for eventually moving on.

Sanjay Adell played professionally overseas for 6 years from 2002-2009 then moved back to Milwaukee. He was a corrections officer until he had a run-in with an inmate. Since then appears he's gotten big in coaching and developing the Milwaukee AAU scene.

Coaching in general seems to be a gig that only gets worse, not better.

Truth. And if we keep going the way it is with irate and demanding parents at youth level and then handlers/agents/NIL at college, let alone pros, we just might run all the good coaches off.

A lot of youth that need, or could benefit from role models and support systems might lose that opportunity.

Let alone the actual loss of basketball knowledge.

Some more recent ones...

Jaylin Hunter appears to be off to a very good start with his team in the UK, averaging about 15 a game and his team near the top of the league.

Wiz is on the worst team in the league in the Czech Republic but appears to be playing at least the role he did with us if not a little more.

Not sure why I thought Miles wasn't pursuing a prop career, but it looks like he did sign in the North Macedonia league. Yup, a balkan country with less than 2 mil people has their own league. I haven't been able to figure out how he is doing (or if it has even started?)

Jaylin is doing very well in Britain, haven't been able to catch up with him lately. Gave me a thumbs up at graduation. BVP still in Europe. Not sure where Miles Brown is. BRod works in Columbus, I see he attends CBJ games all the time.

I've still been wondering where Lunden McDay is now and if he's doing alright.

Does anyone know why Stevie Taylor left Iowa State?
