Really enjoyed taking time to listen to Fran talk about a range of things from n NCAA to"Ohio U", the MAC and the future of March madness.

https://omny.fm/shows/thedandakichshow/the-dan-dakich-sho...

Starts at 49 minutes and 45 secs and rambles on for a bit. Thought provoking, memories discussed, conjectures and life as a coach in the NIL era. Not everyone's cup of tea but I was entertained.

Good stuff. Brought back some great MAC memories including the infamous OU at BG game where Vic Alexander got hammered and there was no call and Danny stormed the court, grabbed the ball and bounced it off the floor where it almost hit the ceiling. Thanks for sharing.

I was sitting in the first row right underneath the basket on that play. I still remember Mr. Alexander's face looking like he had been hit by a baseball bat (which a swung closed fist can imitate). It was massively obvious and yet.....no call. The game ended just a few seconds later and as the BG coach walked past me, I said to him "did you pay the refs to ingnore that mugging?" He did not turn and aknowledge my remark but I was only a couple of feet away from him. That no call is in my top ten of WTF calls (or no calls) by refs I have witnessed in all my years of watching basketball.

I'll say it again: If Danny/Franny/Billy had stayed at Ohio, we would not have our unblemished record of NCAA compliance. Those guys played it fast and loose, IMO.

That era was resplendent with coaches and players doing things. Balls had University p cards being used by players, computers stolen and being sold... Majerus obviously had complete control and never crossed a line...(where is that rollig eyes emoji)

Who were the two players back in that era at OHIO who stole some stuff from dorm room? All I can remember is that my wife referred to them as the Larceny Twins. I believe this might have been in Nee's first year or two in Athens.

Rick Scarberry, who I believe was a nephew of Nee. He had broken into a number of dorm rooms and stolen stereo equipment during winter break. Was surprised he didn't get kicked off the team.

I think that's right guy, as the name does ring a bell, but who was the accomplice? I think the other guy was maybe not charged, but was mentioned in early stores about the stolen equipment. He was also on the team. As you say, neither of them were kicked off the team, or really disciplined by Nee in any visible way.

Huh....I met him at Providence when w beat G Town. Really nice guy. I remember during that era of athletes when I was working with Ball State Medica , I was introduced to the concept that they are referred to by parents of athletes who say "my son is a grown ass man, treat him like one"...until they get caught doing things....they they are "just kids doing stupid stuff"

Used to like listening to Dakich until recent years as he has started to show his true colors.

I would share that I now refuse to listen to him but then he might claim cancel culture and tell me to F off. So I won't.
