That time of the year to see who the staff starts to follow in the portal for speculation on who we might be targeting.

Recent portal additions followed by Boals —

Davion Hill of Ball State
Tameron Ferguson of Augustana (D2). Averaged 20ppg and shot 36% from 3 this past season. Has already heard from a lot of mid-majors including Akron and Buffalo.

Adding these two via Kyle Barlow —

Jalen Langsy from Northwestern College (NAIA). Scoring machine this season with 27ppg and 22ppg career average. Just small at 6’1.

Kraig Gilbert from Concord in West Virginia (D2). 6’8.

Langsy has several games with 4+ assists and an outstanding A/TO ratio. Possible starting point guard? Shooting and scoring statistics are unreal.

Langsy is intriguing. Assuming Simmons (and staff) does return, surrounding him with shooters at all heights for spacing should be the priority.

Adding Boals follow — Sean Registr Jr. from East Florida State JUCO. 6’7 and from Cleveland. Like Langsy, a scoring machine at his level averaging 25ppg, shooting 66% overall and 40% from 3 off 69 attempts.

Like Langsy, also intriguing based off the shooting and scoring numbers — even more so with the size.

According to the team website, Langsy shot over 48% from 3 on 533 attempts over 2 years. Shot over 51% this year on 288 attempts which is wild. I’m questioning if the stats in the team page are accurate because of how high that is. Yes please if this is accurate.

We’re on a long list of schools to have reached out to Jaquay Randolph of Southern Wesleyan (D2)

6’10 and averaged 21ppg and 15rpg.

Early theme of portal targets appears to be high producing lower level players.

Yea, I like him along with Registr and Langsy. We've never added lower level guys with eye-popping stats.

Tough to gauge how they'll translate, but it's clear all three players can put the ball in the hoop and come in different sizes. At worse, they appear to be solid rotational pieces. Which we need.

Right now, we're just Simmons (assuming he returns) and bunch of potential hopes and dreams.

Assume this guy is going for a bigger payday, but Oakland F Isaac Garrett is in the portal. Former JUCO, averaged 13/7 and averaged 80% at the FT line. Better yet, he only shot 24 threes. Had some big performances against high majors: 20 against Michigan, 20 against Houston and 23 against UCF.

Anyone want to check if someone on our staff is following him?

https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/isaac-garret...

If I had to guess, guys like this going laterally won't be the norm like we got Breath and Conners.

I loved this guy last year, but he's P5 for sure. I was shocked he landed at Oakland because Florida State and Cal were in his Top 3.

We need to find the next Isaac Garrett.

Given the recent lack of success with players from lateral or higher programs, I’m all for it. Seems more in line with Kent State’s approach, which has served them pretty well.

I had this in another thread last week... adding it here.

D2 Wish List:

- Aidan McDowell, 6'4" Soph - 26.7 points (1 assist) for Western Colorado. Doesn't pass, but gets buckets. 1st Team D2. 39% from 3. Made 93 in 28 games. For comp, Sheldon was #1 on our team with 66. Announced he will enter the portal.
- Jaquay Randolph, 6'10" JR - 21 pints, 15 rebounds, 1 block. Led D2 in double-doubles with 25 in 28 games.
- Marko Serenac, 6'10" JR - 14 points, 11 rebounds. Barry U by way of Serbia.
- Will Davies, 6'4" Soph - 13.7 points, 7.3 assists for Saint Anselm (D2 East Region POY)
- Jovan Ristic, 6'5" Soph - 11.8 points, 9.6 boards - had 15 double doubles this season. Also Saint Anselm.
- Jo Jo Wallace, 6'3" Soph - 24.8 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists. SNHU, which is apparently not just an online school.

Just had a look at the stats page to see what the hype is about for this kid, and holy smokes, his numbers are INCREDIBLE. For anyone who hasn't looked: 27 PPG, 51% from 3, 91% at the line, 4 APG, 2.4 A/TO ratio. Assuming these are accurate, this is one of the most efficient offensive players I have ever seen. I know it's NAIA, but get this guy on campus and good things will happen.

Another JUCO followed by Boals and Lee.

Terry Copeland Jr. out of Howard College. 6’9 freshman averaging 19ppg and 7rpg while shooting 68%. Dropped 40 points in recent regional tournament game.

This guy could be fun next to Simmons.

I think the lower level players with extraordinary numbers can transition to MM. The numbers will even out a little bit, but they can clearly play. Langsy, specifically, can hoop. His numbers are ridiculous.

I sort of compare it to ML players who come back from the KBO more polished. Cost-effective ways to fill roster with production even if it doesn’t match the lower level numbers entirely.

We offered this guy early in his high school career alongside some other power schools and then he seemed to vanish. Out of nowhere he signed with NIU but played in just one game.

Ah, I wasn't aware of that. That mutual follow might be from the past then. Although, he seems like a worthy target again.

Tameron Ferguson has committed to Arkansas State. Would love to know details of what a top D2 player lands from a mid-major.

Wonder if All Wright is targeting a transfer lateral or transfer down.

https://x.com/TheFieldOf68/status/2034004949210677501

MVC freshman of the year at Valpo. Mostly a starter at Xavier but inconsistent scoring figures and minutes looked like they dipped towards the end of the year. Some good assist totals in his first two years and GREAT shooting percentages.

Possibly a transfer down? Seems to have the same path as Pav. I think it’d be an alright idea

Agreed - his stats weren’t stellar for Xavier, they were just alright.
