Shocking that two people who don't play golf don't enjoy watching golf. Really solid effort fellas. Al, 3.2M unique viewers tuned in from what I read. No Tiger or Rory playing, and it still did good numbers in Week 1. I originally thought that not having the two bigges names start Week 1 was a mistake but now I've reconsidered. Tiger is still the needle in golf. No one draws attention even remotely close so a lot of people will watch when he's playing and I bet Week 2 will do more than Week 1. That's a chance to draw these people in to regular viewers. Week 1 debut, Week 2 Tiger debut, Week 3 Tiger vs. Rory. Are some people hooked at that point? Maybe. My take in general...the tech is very impressive. The pace is much more appealing to watch with the shot clock. I would have liked to see more of the stats on the screen. The format I'm not sure about yet but it seems OK. I think this is a good chance to get to know these guys better and let their personalities show. Not all are cut out for that but maybe some lesser known guys have a path to winning over some new fans. I was surprised with Xander being pretty vocal and joking around a lot. Never been much of a fan of his, but maybe I've misjudged. Like LIV, I highly doubt the team matters to anyone. This is light years better than any recent versions of "The Match". I'll take Shell's Wonderful World of Golf televised matches, starting in the 60's over this any day of the week. I will say I'm disappointed there are no mis-reads on good swings when the terrible shanks get picked up all the time...but they got plenty of very expensive backup launch monitors to solve for that, vs. my cheap Rapsodo :) I don't see this lasting long, especially since PGA is starting up in nice warm weather locations anyways. To make it last, I agree with Long Driver, this needs to be more personable than a normal PGA event to get to know the players better. Similar to how people view golfers who have become active in YouTube content creation. Ryan M. I was only got to watch the first 9 holes (alternate shot). It's a shame the match got out of hand so quickly. Would have been nice to see it go down to the wire where the gimme range didn't get quite so crazy. I think this will end up being a short term novelty event. Looking at the broadcast times going forward, 7 EST time may prove problematic. A couple of things I'd like to see are more onscreen stats and a split screen of the putts - one from above (they did that once) and one at ground level. Several times you had no idea what the actual putt looked like ore where the hole was. I could do without the guy in the crazy blue coat announcing. What is his claim to fame anyway. I do have a fear that if this does get big, that some of the wild fan behavior which was ok for this event, may spill over into tour events. Even as loose as these guys were the other night, things will tighten up quite a bit on tour. I'll watch again next week to see Tiger and then Tiger and Rory in a few weeks but I don't see tuning into this every week. One other thought. It would be very interesting if the teams also had a true amateur player chosen at random from entires from around the country or through a competition at Golf Galaxy. Now that might generate some additional interest. However, I think the presentation is just too gimmicky to appeal to whomever televised golf attracts. LIV fails to draw viewers to see, arguably, the world’s best fields play real golf and the complaints I hear have more to do with loud music, shorts and distracting graphics than any aspect of golf or talent. Given all that, I foresee a large SoFi asset in West Palm being available for birthday parties soon.
